Boosting your iPhone speaker volume

After finding the maximum speaker phone volume too low for normal use, I decided to poke around and see if there was something I could do about it. I knew that the Celestial framework folder (/System/Library/Frameworks/Celestial.framework/) had a Maximum Volume property list, so I decided to edit mine and see if I could effect a volume boost.

In the property list, I adjusted the Default -> Default value up to 0.99, up from 0.7 and found that it seemed to nicely boost my speaker volume. Is this a real fix? Or did I just psychosomatically convinced my ears that they were happier? You tell me in the comments.

I fell for the beauty of this phone...and it is terrific with email, voice mail, maps, uTube, everything except as a phone! Poor reception, buzzy speaker, weak volume...my Motorola Razr was far better as a phone. I used the speaker phone frequently to include others in important calls--completely impossible with the iPhone. I am desperate for a solution or I will need to go buy a phone and use the iPhone as the iEverything Else!

So how does one go about editing these settings? What tools could I use?

Wow, this really does make a difference if you bump up those numbers a lot more than Erica's example. My Default -> Default value was 0.7, I bumped it to 1.7 and could actually listen to the phone from across the room on speaker (no distortion) - prior to that I could barely use speaker even with the phone just a few feet from my ears.

Don't be so aggressive on the headphones settings, just a few decimal points seem to go a long way there...especially with the touchtone settings.

I had tried the installer.app version prior to reading this thread, and it doesn't work on 1.1.1 phones.

Also, not sure, but is a reboot required to implement these settings...I reboot after each tweak...kind of a pain, but worth the effort.

Are there any chance this will damage your speaker?

Hi! great mod, although to really get to know if you actually raised the volume up, you should do the following test:
1. Get it back as it was ate 0.7 as you said...
2. Record a voice note raising your voice slowly (so you'll see in step 3 much more better results)
3. Try out your speaker in a very quite room (hopefully with no eco) and recorded with any software in your mac or pc that gives you a decibel meter with bars and numbers (you could also recorded in a stereo that has the same feuters)...
4. Write down the level you got (or try to rember it).
5. Try the hole process again but with your speaker mod...
Finallly

6. Tell us how you did!!!

Thanks, good testing
