Yojimbo updated to 1.5

If your note-taking, data-collecting app doesn't agree with you, you've got plenty of options out there; as for me, I'm happy with Yojimbo, and happier now that 1.5 is out. The new version adds images as a full-fledged data type (meaning you can sync pictures via .Mac, although you're warned not to try and replace iPhoto or Aperture) and improves search performance. There's also now an auto-update feature, at long last!

You can get the 10.4 MB download here. Note that the update requires a change to your database structure, so it will back up your existing files before it runs.

Thanks, Dirk.

Unfortunately, if you use 1.5 and the reinstall the widescreen hack, it breaks the search capability within the application. Woe is me.

I wonder if the new Notes feature within Leopard's Mail 3.0 a good alternative to Yojimbo. Has anyone tried both and compared their strengths and weaknesses? Thanks!

I love Yojimbo. It's like a junk drawer for random documents, but it's especially good for keeping PDFs organized, like journal articles.

I'm disappointed that this update doesn't add QuickLook support, though.

Still no tags in Yojimbo? Too bad, since I am in the market to switch from Mori, which is pretty close to abandonware, but I need something that supports tags, and lots of 'em.

For me what sets Yojimbo apart from all the others (at least for personal use) is the whole quick entry popup and library dock. This makes it impossibly easy to throw all your junk into it. I had a license for KIT and tried it a while ago, but even though it handled more file formats (I think this has now changed), these two features kept me using it. I really enjoy using it to store my serial numbers for all my software in addition to the occasional bookmark that I wouldn't visit enough to merit keeping in Safari. It's a good way to store PDFs too. Dot Mac syncing just sweetens the deal all that much more. I frequently have some of the same apps on both my Macs and with Yojimbo, I have a fast way to get the serial number for it. I also have DEVONthink Pro for academic use and absolutely love it too, but it's really an overkill for personal stuff.

I love these apps, but what I'd like to know is why tuaw as never reviewed thebrain: www.thebrain.com It's a kickass software that now has a mac version. (I am not affiliated in any way with thebrain, and have been using the software on PCs for 4 years now)

Anyone compared Together(formerly KIT) to Yojimbo? I've messed around a little with it and it seems pretty decent.

I've tried many data managers too (Devonthink, Eaglefiler, Papers), but the program I'm using most is Yojimbo because its ease of use and how quickly and easy I can read my library of PDF files and notes. Image support is a great add-on. I wish they would add layers to folders for better organisation.

Ah well, *installing and testing*.
