Rumors: Is iPhone firmware 1.1.3 about to debut?
TUAW reader Josh Zeller tipped us off to this electronista post suggesting that a big firmware upgrade is about to bow, bringing voice recording and disk mode to the iPhone. If true, these major features would be welcome additions to the ever-growing iPhone user base. On the down side, every firmware upgrade comes as a roadblock to the third-party application community, requiring a new jailbreak. And yes, this would require a new jailbreak despite the possible disk access. Apple traditionally only grants access to the media portions of the unit's onboard storage.
How much do we believe this rumor? Apple has been good about bringing out firmware upgrades every few weeks, so if you wait just a little while, pretty much any firmware upgrade rumor comes true. As to the voice and disk details? These rumors have appeared for nearly every major firmware update--so eventually they may just be right... if you wait long enough.

I only don't believe the rumor because a "big" update wouldn't be from 1.1.2. to 1.1.3. I'd see more of a 1.2.0, that's more of a major revision.

a 1.2 is more like a 3G iPhone firmware. Think like OS X not like most software.

Oui, oui! I heard that it was the French Spiderman that started spreading the 1.1.3 update rumors. LOL!

The original report came from Cnet France, so I am not really sure what to think. As stated Apple has consistently brought iPhone updates a few weeks apart and it has been a month since the 1.1.2 update, so if that is actually the trend we are due for an update.
I don't personally have much use for a voice recorder app, but the idea of using the iPhone as a disk of sorts is a cool one.
One thing I would like to see is Apple change the look of the dock on the iPhone to match the iPod Touch. It is possible to do via a hack, so you would think Apple could very easily change this setting to make this happen.

I agree. The Touch dock is much nicer. Seems like it would be an easy menu setting.

I don't even have 1.1.2...I like my 3rd party apps and wouldn't risk losing them! Voice recording...meh. Disk storage...already got it. They would have to add video-recording support and A2DP Bluetooth to really make me think twice.

You know what...!? MMS might not be that far off. I was watching CHUCK on monday and i noticed that chuck received a mms message from his friend. I told my wife that that was not possible, but now this rumor is flying... could it be so?!?

The original report came from Cnet France and despite their current issues with Gamespot I would say they are pretty reputable, so I wouldn't totally count this out.

Cnet France reputable? yeahhh right!
Either way it's stated as a rumor....and nobody should spread rumors neither link to them. It's just speculation and that doesn't help anyone.

A little funny -- I recently upgraded to 1.1.2, and temporarily lost my Edge connection. I assumed for a while the network was down, but then stopped in at AT&T to see what was up. All it needed was a reboot, but the "helpful" clerk at the store said I shouldn't trust upgrades from iTunes... Hmm - maybe not the A-Team!

Hath no one noticed the date in iTunes which specifies when it will again check for a new update, and that every time there's been an update, a few weeks in advance it kicks out to the day after the update is to be released?
Sometimes it increments just because, but it's been a fairly good predictor when the rumor mill about updates starts getting hot and heavy.

I just want activesync. wireless sync via bluetooth, or even the ability to send files (like pictures) via bluetooth to other cell phones would be great, but I really need activesync.

I'm actually hoping that they add WPA Enterprise, so I can connect to my WiFi network at work. I know the iPhone isn't targeted to business users, but there are tons of companies and universities that use this protocol and it would make the lives of those of us with no other connection options much, much better!

copy/paste. Really when are they going to add copy/paste to the iPhone?
