iPod touch VOIP update: SIP signalization working

iPhone hacker eok writes to let me know that he and Samuel have gotten SIP registration and signalization working. They took a few mobile terminal shots, but the real work is being done via ssh. Samuel is working on connecting the audio in/out to the pjSIP. If you have iPhone or iPod touch coding skills and want to get involved in the project, connect to #touchmods on irc.undernet.org. It looks like most of the work will be done on European time.
Oh, and if anyone is giving away free iPods to worthy developers? eok recommends that Samuel gets one first. He writes that Samuel has been the driving force behind the compilation.

Very impressive. Especially considering that the iPod touch has been in consumer hands for less than three months.

How close are you guys to an Installer.app version? (I know it sounds selfish, but really I'm askign for the community)

Can someone bother to explain what SIP is? The post went by without even one mention of what it does and how it's suppose to benefits me. I scanned the article trying the understand how the heck I'm gonna use it, but all it focused on was how to install the thing!
Bad bad journalism!

Journalism? This is a web blog, with a targeted audience. Surely it isn't difficult to type SIP into Google, or even Wikipedia?

I agree... snore. TUAW has morphed into a iPhone hacker site in which all the posts are written (poorly) in the first person. Can't there just be a site spin-off for the iPhone/iPod hacking crowd?

This is a little off-topic, but does anyone know the artist/song name of the music video that Apple uses in the promo shot above (the woman with her hands picture)?

I've got SIP signalling working on my IPhone for weeks. Including GUI to make/receive calls. I already did successful calling but the problem is the sound. There seems to be a lock on audio processing, no input is possible, output works.

shhh - you're letting reality get in the way of multi-post hype

Christian: Could you please post the work you mentioned you have done to help you with it?

So, I've been trying to piece together all of the various Engadget/Gizmodo/TUAW posts since about July to come up with the answer to the following question: can I get an iPhone, use DVD Jon's (or another) method of activating the iPod and web capabilities without AT&T, and then make outgoing (and maybe even incoming) calls via VOIP?

When using SendSong I can't figure out how the tracks are listed. It takes forever to go thru the 6,000 plus items without knowing how they are organized. Does anyone have an answer?
