Gear Live answers iPhone 1.1.3 questions

After last nights iPhone video post, Gear Live has answered the first batch of viewer questions regarding the iPhone firmware 1.1.3. In addition to posting the Q&A, they have included a picture of the "About" screen of the iPhone, which clearly shows "1.1.3" in the software version. When this story first broke, there were many skeptics (including myself). Either this a big hoax played on the internet public, or it's real.

Last night, I spoke with Andru Edwards of Gear Live to get a little more information. Andru reassured me again that the firmware is, in fact, real; however, he could not share any other information than what is already posted at Gear Live.

Thanks Andru!

Will some of these features be available for iPod Touch? Like bookmarking things so they go to the homescreen and moving applications around? Please reply!

@KeynoteKen

So its true - cats have a written language and mice can understand it.

Isnt this bigger news than the iPhone thing?

Just to followup: if anyone wants to change the display of your "System Version," just SSH into your jailbroken iPhone/touch and change the SystemVersion.plist file, which is located in /System/Library/CoreServices/.

I'm not suggesting that's what happened here. I believe the GearLive scoop to be accurate (but hopefully, not complete.)

I'm just sayin'.

FWIW, it is trivial for a jailbreaker to manually change the software version in the "About" screen of the iPhone.

I am not saying that's what happened here; I believe the screenshots and video of 1.1.3 to be real!

I'm just saying that the "About" screen serves as no proof whatsoever.

Thanks for changing the TUAW background, this loads faster and looks better... I didn't care too much for the space background. As for the iPhone 1.1.3 update I think someone leaked an early version of the update and Gear Live is showing off some of what is coming but not all. Apple is probably not all that worried about it (otherwise the cease and desist would have been issued) nothing like a little iPhone fever to drive up sales before/after MacWorld.

Where can one find info on 1.1.3 and unlocking? I saw a post on 1.1.3 here http://personafile.com/iPhone-apps.html

I'm liking the new background color. Very cool and the page loads a lot faster too.

Yeah, I was getting used to the space background as well.

I am finding the blue easier to look at though.

Apple released this to keep the rumor sites distracted. It keeps everyone talking about the iPhone but is short on features. Apple plans a much bigger update that will blow away this leak. This sets expectations that they can beat. But its got enough to make us fall for it. Otherwise they would have done the cease and desist already. Or its fake. My guess is that its disinformation from Apple. I think to boost iPhone sales and customer loyalty the feature update will be bigger.
