Adium 1.2, the duck has landed.
Flying out of beta status, Adium 1.2 made a full-fledged public release today. And we were just talking about the beta release right before Christmas... Starting with an improved menubar item and account management features, the new features and bugfixes in 1.2 get too numerous for this post, so be sure to head for the Adium blog to find out what's new.
I will go ahead and mention one improvement that I'm personally excited about: AppleScript support has been improved in the new build and we'll be seeing outside projects interfacing with Adium more easily now. Non-U.S. users will also want to take a fresh look at 1.2 as it now sports over a dozen localizations.
Adium 1.2 is free and available for download!
Thanks Samuel & Thomas!

Erm there is a bug with the size of the chat window text box shrinking on it's own when you type a long entry. That's new. Doh!

I'm experiencing this as well. Hope it gets fixed pronto... very annoying!

I think it's supposed to be a feature, but it's really irritating.

Cool they quickly fixed it and now we just need to wait on 1.2.1 to be released:

The new features are great, but I've had 3 crashes in the past hour of using it.

I'm sticking with iChat 4.0 for now. Adium just doesn't offer anything vastly better.

Adium = consolidated buddy list, MSN support. Not having 4-5 different windows for buddy lists is a major improvement in my book. Before, I had Yahoo, MSN, and iChat for Jabber and AOL and .Mac.
I also like the Growl support for Adium.

Dan: Like supporting MSN? :) Sorry, I love iChat and all, but it doesn't use ANY of the IM protocols that my friends and colleagues use... It's quite the useless app for me.
1.2 is working well for me so far, but I still cannot believe MSNP14 support failed to make the cut, again. How many years has it been since MS introduced offline messaging in MSN? We still don't have that feature! Libpurple has a working MSNP14 implementation, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why it's not part of the newest libpurple builds, nor Adium.

I wish that Adium would support MSN personal messages.
This is a major drawback, keeping me from switching.

They were hoping to include it with this release but the libpurple guys haven't finished it yet.

Err, yeah. Like nobody else in the world speaks English?
BTW, when are we going to get this single, unified messaging concept working? Ever?

Sorry, poorly phrased. Non-English would have been more appropriate.

And that should have been non-English-speaking, given I'm non-English myself. It's 1:30 in the morning...

There's different localizations of English (Great Britain, Australia, Canada).

I love how it shows the number of unread IMs in the menu bar at the top.

I'm interested in the applescript comments. OK, cool that it has improved applescript support. But what are some great examples of how this feature can be used? I have trouble thinking of any.

My biggest annoyance with Adium has been that when I delete someone from my list it removes them from Adiums list but not MSN's. I got told my biddy list was full last month when I only had 104 people in it.
I have to go in via the official client and painstakingly delete each unwanted contact one by one (no multiple deletes in the Mac official client).
Such a pain!
