Macworld Blast featured Devo

If you ever wondered whatever became of 80s rock fringers Devo, wonder no more; they were here in San Francisco last night, entertaining the faithful at the Macworld Blast party. Mark Mothersbaugh and crew were dressed in identical black t-shirts, shorts and kneepads as they delivered a sonic assault to a crowd partially adorned with classic Devo red plastic hats.
The party, sponsored by Microsoft, also featured packs of Office-branded M&M candies. Chocolate and very loud music, always a delightful combo.

Did they play their new song? You know, the one featured in the Dell commercials?

I've been a Devo fan for over two decades. I dig "Work It" more than anything they've done for a long time. It's unfortunate that the song is on an otherwise boring Dell ad, but oh well. At least Mark represents in the "I'm a Mac" ads as well (that cute music in the background is also his).

And it's also worth noting that "Watch Us Work It" appears to be an iTMS exclusive right now...

Looks like the EFF party was a bit better, at an art gallery/bar in an old warehouse near Soma.

Been a Devo fan for almost 30 years. Never have seen them live. Would have been a cool show to be at.

A lot of people focus on Devo's stuff from the eighties, but they had a lot of great lo-fi experimental stuff starting from the mid-seventies. If you haven't checked it out, buy the Devo Hardcore albums.

It was quite awesome to see DEVO live, thought i must say it somewhat diminished my youthful rememberances of them as trend breakers in the 70-80's. now they looked almost ready to lay down. Frankly i thought the main keyboardist was going to faint, he looked so tired, yet the Guiterist seemed the most au courant.
Nonetheless, it was an honor to be so close and personal with a legend and to see them preform the hits that we all remember so well, like "Whip it, Whip it Good!" just plain awesome.
Would like to see more photos, of the event, as i didn't bring my camera, very odd for me to leave it behind. So i was left with taking pictures with my eyes. :)
It was also cool to be standing next the Marketing Guru who put the event all together, Pat O'?
Anyway, live on DEVO!!! Live ON.
