MacBook Air hands-on
After the keynote we naturally raced to the gigantic Apple booth to get our grubby hands on the MacBook Air. Watch Scott compare it to his now-beastly MacBook Pro. Also watch the nifty new multi-touch trackpad action.
UPDATE: Silly me, I ignored Apple's CamelCase naming scheme. All better.

Not at its MSRP it isn't. Drop the price 75% and you might be onto something.
Seeing it next to a MBP is something else! Thin is not the word. Wow!

January 18 2008 at 12:42 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyjesus christ. if the MBA f-ing screen were smaller, you pukes would be complaining, "it's too small!" if it were any heavier, you'd be whining "shee-it! this ain't no no differn't than my mac book!" the speed kicks ass out of my powerbook g4 i'm typing on and my tower g5 at work, so i THINK it is good for "doing shit." you're not supposed to edit VIDEO on the thing. as far as the drive capacity, i've got adobe cs2 apps, quark, 10 gig of music, etc. amount of space this takes up: 43.16.

This is an on-the-go machine, so it should only have your on-the-go apps, a little music, and a few pics. It IS NOT A DESKTOP REPLACEMENT! It is the perfect companion to your iMac or Mac Pro.
the macbook air looks too thin to me ... i wonder how durable it will be. I am still waiting for the macbook upgrade ..
January 17 2008 at 6:46 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat about the screen? Could somebody tell me if the screen is better than the one on the MacBook?
I mean, of course, the LED makes it better, but is it of quality like the MacBook's:
Bad gradients
Color banding
Getting brighter from top to bottom.
The MacBook's screen is really bad, and the glossy coating is suspicous.
Oh, and on the topic of NOT refreshing the MacBook Pro. January 7th marked 5 years since the first Macs in an aluminum enclosure were introduced. The MBP we have now is pretty much still the same 17" PowerBook from 2003!
I think this could warrant a post of its own. Why no celebration, Apple?
