I'm just mad that the downtime seems to have affected the itunes store as well. I keep getting an error message when trying to log in. Anyone able to actually use the itunes store at this time?

Seriously, what is the deal with Apple's site going down ever time they have to change something? They are the only ones that do that. Why?

Because they use a caching schema that distributes various parts of their content to servers around the globe. I'm assuming they take it down to sync that content and ensure a consistent level of service.
