Apple could face another major leadership change as Mike Rockwell, the executive overseeing Siri’s artificial intelligence development, reportedly considers stepping down.

Rockwell played a central role in Apple’s AI strategy after leading the development of the Apple Vision Pro. However, his possible departure could create fresh uncertainty about the company’s future plans.

Mike Rockwell Considers Leaving Siri AI

According to recent reports, Rockwell may leave his position as Siri AI chief sometime in 2027. Moreover, he could consider leaving Apple entirely.

However, Rockwell has not publicly confirmed any decision. Therefore, his future remains uncertain.

The potential departure comes after Apple spent considerable effort improving Siri’s artificial intelligence capabilities.

Rockwell took charge of Siri AI in March 2025. His appointment followed an internal review of the team by Apple executive Kim Vorrath.

Soon afterward, he began restructuring the department. In April 2025, he reportedly brought several employees from his Vision Pro team into Siri development.

These changes helped reshape Apple’s approach to its digital assistant.

Apple May Restructure Its AI Leadership

If Rockwell steps down, Apple could divide his responsibilities between two senior executives.

Former Google AI specialist Amar Subramanya and Apple executive Sebastien Marineau have emerged as possible candidates.

Both could take on important responsibilities as Apple continues developing its AI technology.

Meanwhile, Marineau currently reports to software chief Craig Federighi. Reports also suggest Marineau could eventually succeed Federighi.

However, there is no indication that Federighi plans to retire or leave Apple anytime soon.

Therefore, any leadership changes remain speculative.

Siri’s Future Remains a Major Priority

Apple introduced its revamped Siri AI at WWDC 2026, marking an important milestone in the assistant’s development.

The improvements followed significant internal changes and growing pressure to strengthen Apple’s position in artificial intelligence.

Previously, John Giannandrea oversaw the company’s AI efforts before Rockwell assumed responsibility for Siri.

Rockwell’s leadership helped guide the assistant through a major development period.

Nevertheless, another executive transition could influence how Apple manages future Siri improvements.

The company must also maintain progress while competing with other technology firms developing advanced AI assistants.

For now, Apple has announced no official leadership changes.

However, Rockwell’s reported uncertainty raises important questions about who will guide Siri’s next stage of development.
