"Podmaps" concept patent sought by Apple

Like many Apple patents, there's no indication (or even suggestion) that anything like this would ever see the light of day, but it does tell us that Apple is looking at doing more with marrying their hardware with maps software, just like the great improvements we saw in the iPhone's 1.1.3 update. Hardly a surprise, too, that a company so strongly turning towards portable computing is thinking about the needs of portable users. But a cool idea nevertheless, and it also confirms that Apple sees the iTS's podcast model as a strong and easy way of quickly distributing content of all kinds.

This is one of the ideas I threw into the "Dream App" contest. With Alex's voice being able to be spoken directly to a file, I could see how this could work quite easily. So, for those iPods that don't and may never see WiFi (nano), you can still get some really cool driving instructions. It's not like I haven't been loading the text of the directions on my iPod already :D

To be honest, you looked a fool even without the typo. People who post old news posts are fools, especially when the 'old' news they complain about is actually only a day old.

If that wasn't enough, he appears to have posted as an excuse to linkwhore his own blog. :)

Garmin announced something like this sometime mid-2007 with Intellitours. In case you can't wait for it to make it to the iPhone, you could always download one of those for your GPS.
