Handbrake 0.9.2 now out & Leopard-only
If you're a fan of Handbrake -- the tool that allows you to extract your DVDs* into more portable formats (such as your iPod / iPhone / Apple TV) -- listen up. Handbrake has hit version 0.9.2!So what's changed from the last version, released back in October last year? Well, first-off the application is Leopard-only which may well irk some readers (debate away in the comments, folks). Throw in improved queueing, Sparkle updating for keeping Handbrake up-to-date, iPhone Anamorphic video, 'multi-track audio on Apple devices' and Elgato .eyetv file support. Of course, there's many, many, more enhancements that we're not mentioning, and the changelist shows there's plenty of new goodness in this release.
All for the very excellent price of free, the new version is available from the Handbrake site for Mac, WIndows and Linux citizens.
*It goes without saying that you should only use Handbrake for DVDs which you are licensed to do so. TUAW does not condone piracy.
Thanks, Rouven!

I am still waiting for a version that supports my Turbo.264 stick. I know it's an unlikely request, but one can only hope!!

File a bug asking for it?

Not going to happen (the devs have said several times), HandBrake uses x264 for encoding and not quicktime which the Turbo.264 uses.

I have a Turbo.264 stick. I used it when I first got into converting videos for an iPod. But now that I have a Touch and an AppleTV there is no comparision between what it will barf out and what handbrake can master.
Anamorphic, CRF, AC3 passthrough that works on the AppleTV and the new iPod FTW!

Seems it's leopard only due to their code optimization that they did for this version. I hope it is much faster and worth it seeing how I'm now stuck at the old version until I get leopard.

Bloody hell, you really have to put that note at the end there? Whatever happened to fair use? If I've bought a DVD, and I want to play it on an iPod, I shouldn't have to pay for it again, just with inferior quality.

Hey, the entertainment industry is notoriously litigious; it's an easier way to make money than ensuring consistently high quality products. Why set yourself up as a target? Disclaim away!

"licensed to do so". You're good to go.

That sucks that it is Leopard only. I've only used Handbrake a few times but I found it useful. Also, fix the "WIndows" last time I checked it wasn't capitalized on the W and I. :P Thanks for the info! TUAW always helps me know when updates are available!

I think the 'disclaimer' at the end of this post is the epitome of typical TUAW lameness.
In fact, it's utterly hypocritical considering how much l33t iphone h4x0ring dominates this blog these days.
Cracking open a device and violating the EULA is okay because it's part of Sadun's holy quest to stick it to the man (or seem special or something), but the obviously paradoxical and out of touch moratorium on ripping DVDs must be upheld on TUAW! I personally have no problem with hacked iPhones or ripped DVDs (especially for fair use), but TUAW's hypocrisy is pretty sad.
A little bird told me your Weblogs Inc. stooges are making ~$4.00 per post. That's way too much.

I agree! How dare TUAW put a little disclaimer in there!
I mean with so much going on in the world, such as famine, wars, floods, droughts, earth quakes, etc... And now TUAW go and just add to human problems!
TUAW, Smack on the hand for you!
@Liam, @Hypocrosy and @JohnPQ, don't you have anywhere better else to be as opposed to sitting here, polluting TUAW with your narcissistic opinions?!

Sphincter says what??

I'm sure all the iPhone hacking articles would have disclaimers added, were Apple to sue those involved. As it is, a little common sense should have shown you the big picture and prevented your trolling; not to mention your childish personal attacks on Erica Sadun.
