Found Footage: iPhone restore screen hacked
Looks like the iPhone hacking teams are at it again. This time they have created a custom image where the normal "Connect to iTunes" image should be on a normal iPhone. This image, used when you restore your iPhone or iPod touch, was a yellow triangle and has been updated to the iPod connector and iTunes icon in recent iPhone/touch firmware versions.

Wow! Does this mean they found out how to sign their own firmwares? If so, that's amazing!

I expect they're replacing the bootloader (see geohot's site for stuff about that) and disabling the signing.
Once you've disabled signing at one step it's not that hard to disable it on all the others.. the chain of trust is broken.
The logical conclusion of course is the ability to create custom ipsw files and install them directly rather than having to go through complex jailbreak procedures.

I'd really like to change the boot up apple logo to the old colored apple logo.
Any ideas?

My click...
I want it back.
That could have been a still PNG. I did not need to devote 30 seconds of my life watching a static screen. I suppose my time was PWNED!

Cute novelty, I suppose. I really wouldn't run around screaming I pwned an iPhone if I did this hack.

At the end it asked "any questions?" Yeah I have a question - what the hell was the point of that? Am I supposed to care or something? Geez, do something useful on the iPhone and then maybe I'll give a crap.

You know, since only one of you even got the point of this, why don't the rest of you stop posting comments on iPhone hacking articles?
Go play a video game or eat something.

This likely indicates some sort of bug has been found in the bootloader's digital signature checking. Images are signed as of the 1.1.1 release, and I'm pretty sure replacing an image would require a signature exploit.
If that's the case, it's awesome. It means even if Apple patches the kernel bug in ziphone, there's another bug in the restore which may be quite a bit more difficult to patch.

That's the longest Video of a still shot I've ever seen!
Still, not bad if they can hack the firmware (if that's how they did it anyway)

you can see he start up the phone (presses power) then it boots apple logo, then boots a different screen "PWNED" then it goes to the normal phone lock or to the slide to unlock screen if you don't have a password/sim lock activated...
