iNdependence utility updated to work with 1.1.4 firmware
If you're waiting for a jailbreak tool for the iPhone 1.1.4 firmware (and you aren't eager to hang around for the promised update to Ziphone), iNdependence 1.4 beta 5 might be for you. The latest version of the tool is built to work with the new iPhone firmware without difficulty.iNdependence is billed as the "easy-to-use interface for jailbreak, activation, SSH installation, and ringtone/wallpaper/application installation on your iPhone." With the new beta, the SIM unlocking (gunlock) capability is rolled in. Full changelog is here.
As always, you jailbreak or unlock your device at your own risk.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

I have an iphone activated with at&t and unlock with IPSF and 1.1.2 (3B48b), firmware 04.02.13_G. I also use the iphone with a mobile company outside of the U.S. Should i upgrade to 1.1.4 and and still be able to use it with at&t and non at&t carrier outside of the u.s?

Thank you for referencing that guide. I was pulling my hair out last night. This worked great. I tripped up on ssh-ng in. I used a 1 instead of an l ( lowercase L).
How long did iNdependence take to jail break 1.1.4. I am sitting at the Waiting for jail break window for about 20 minutes now.

anyway, check hackthatphone.com for detail pictorial instructions.
My best effort how-to
1. restore iphone
2. install independence
3. activate your phone and/or unlock your phone
4. install ssh
5. find insteraller.app
6. tweak it a bit
7. you should be good to go
There many other tweaks out there for fixing various troubles you might run into, i really cannot point you to them, because i really am not someone who is what you would call an expert in this.... =)
i am not the author for any of those tutorials. i've always love hackthatphone.com always good pictures and explanations. howardforum tutorial i just stumbled upon. i hope this clarify somethings for all of you who are as confused as i was..... good luck.
I have a 1.1.4, i did the independence jailb. and the ssh instal, it says that everything is ok, but the problem is that i can't launch the installer.zip file, it says that it can't open the application 'cuz it is not supported by my sistem.
I have z osx 10.4.11
does anyone know how to solve this? I don't want to unlock it thou.
When I click 'perform jailbreak' I get an error, couldnt download firmware file. i click ok and it says RAM disk creation failed.

I am no expert, but those simple steps seem to do the trick for me.
what osx are you running? I have 10.4 .11 and i just can't open the installer.zip file
February 28 2008 at 7:20 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYou have to install ssh by using independence. Then either you add installer.app with independence by following by previously post link or by using fugu with Mark's link. There's nothing you can just install on your computer and make installer.app magically appear on your iphone. i hope this is what you're asking. good luck.
February 28 2008 at 8:20 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNo worky on my iPod touch 16GB; I get a "Error downloading firmware file" message.
Oh well, it didn't explicitly say it would work with the Touch but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. I guess I can wait another week for the real SDK...
I just did a flawless install from 1.1.3 unlocked to 1.1.4...
This is how I did it:
- restore with iTunes (7.6.1) to 1.1.4
-quit iTunes
- start iNdependence 1.4 beta 5 do the activation
- quit iNdependence after succesfull activation and jailbreak
- on you iPhone set to never and go into Airplane mode
- now start iNdependence again and hit the sim unlock button
- Now here the trick to put installer on...
- Quit iNdpendence after succesfull unlock
- Just start Ziphone 2.4 OSX and do only the jailbrake...
that's it. Ziphone puts the installer on there for you...have fun with 1.1.4
