iNdependence utility updated to work with 1.1.4 firmware
If you're waiting for a jailbreak tool for the iPhone 1.1.4 firmware (and you aren't eager to hang around for the promised update to Ziphone), iNdependence 1.4 beta 5 might be for you. The latest version of the tool is built to work with the new iPhone firmware without difficulty.iNdependence is billed as the "easy-to-use interface for jailbreak, activation, SSH installation, and ringtone/wallpaper/application installation on your iPhone." With the new beta, the SIM unlocking (gunlock) capability is rolled in. Full changelog is here.
As always, you jailbreak or unlock your device at your own risk.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

All I get is an "Failure, Error Registering for callback from iPhone" error when I try to run it.
I guess i'm still waiting for iJailbreak so I can hack 1.1.4 :(

just youtube ipodtouchmaster for a clean jailbreak to 1.1.4 and if you are having troubles with script errors in installer.app, go to the uninstall area and reinstall the installer...

Isn't this just a repackaged version of the ZiPhone jailbreak? I remember that's how 1.1.3 worked.

Did I miss something in the last 24+ hours? Why should I upgrade my 1.1.3 jailbreaked iPhone to 1.1.4? Did someone finally figure out what 1.1.4 brings to the table to make us want to upgrade it?

Maybe support for applications made with the SDK.

I've heard some good things regarding stability/bug fixes. Apparently mobile Safari doesn't crash anymore, or not nearly as often. That's just what I've heard. And then there's the upcoming SDK.

Independence is a great application, and it worked for me with my 1.1.3 iPhone. The problem is, it appears to be impossible to install "Installer.app" to your iPhone, because that requires going through jailbreakme.com. So here I am with a 1.1.3 jailbroken iPhone, now downgrading to 1.1.2, so I can do it the proper way. Independence did well to allow me to downgrade, but it's only a middle-man.

Justin you install SSH with independence, then you SSH the installer app to the phone, then do the critical chmod ug+s. I have a guide for all this:

Worked here, Jailbroken and Activated. Just the BaseBand version for me shows the one from 1.1.2, not from 1.1.4.
DJFriar said 1:18AM on 2-28-2008
it worked on my 1.1.4, but installer.app still doesn't work right. Has anyone gotten apps from installer.app to install with out "main script errors"?

I had problems using the SSH method on Installer.app after using iNdependence to upgrade to 1.4, but what worked for me was just to copy the Installer.app file to the proper location on my iPhone, then to do a 'return to jail' on the phone and then re-jailbreak it. That set all the permissions properly.

I was able to jailbreak my 1.1.4, but I'm also looking for instructions on how to run installer.app properly.
