ZiPhone 2.5 released
If you are looking to jailbreak your iPhone and the most recent iNdependence beta isn't for you, you might be interested in trying out the latest version of ZiPhone. ZiPhone 2.5, which is now available for all users (not just financial donors, who were expected to get the app somewhat sooner than the rest of us) is compatible with the latest iPhone 1.1.4 firmware. Zibri recommends restoring the phone to 1.1.4, not updating, because of potential conflicts within the application cache. The early e-mails we have received from users has been positive, but as always, jailbreak at your own risk.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Eh, the SDK is just around the corner. I have no real need to jailbreak my iPhone now

Well, I'm not really a huge user of third-party apps (I jailbreak primarily to use my iPhone in Canada), but it should be noted that the SDK is not going to be the answer that some may think.
I don't think it's particularly surprising, but the latest information suggests that not only will SDK apps be distributed solely via iTunes, but that Apple will have the final say and control over which apps are distributed in this manner, meaning that the situation will be more akin to iPod Games that are sold through iTunes than it will be to podcasts.
Further, the latest information indicates that the final version of the iPhone SDK may not show up before January, and that next's month's release may merely be a "beta" although there is some speculation as to what that may actually mean in terms of the availability of applications.
It would seem that there is going to continue to be a market for jailbreaking and "unauthorized" applications.

I did and it worked a treat. I've had a dead iPhone all day after Independence 1.1.4 failed to work...
Also YouTube works fine here :)

Independence has yet to let me down on about 20 phones now. I say operator error on your part. No different from using any program or method.

heh, i used the 1.1.3-3 official upgrade on mine and youtube doesn't work, youtube patch or not. so i don't think it's going to change just because apple fixed more bugs.

Ouch. No Customize or Summerboard on 1.1.4. That hurts.

Add the repo http://repo.ispazio.net and install the 1.1.4 compatibility patch, then install Summerboard. Works like a champ!

Cool, thanks General. Works perfectly.

I read that v2.5 of ZiPhone will jb/unlock 114otb (out of the box) phones too. Is there really such a thing? Can anyone confirm that they have bought a 114otb phone? The most recent phone I've seen was a week 08 (per 4th and 5th digit of the iPhone's serial number), and was running 113otb. What week phones are people buying now, and what fw are they coming with?

If the 1.1.4 OTB iPhone uses the 4.6 Bootloader and the 4.04.05_G Baseband (i.e. the latest versions released), then ZiPhone 2.5 should work fine.

Can someone tell me if ziphone will also _activate_ a 1.1.4 (non-at&t) phone?

Didn't work on my post-January Upgrade iPod touch 16GB (1.1.3 from factory).
Got the dreaded "BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0" error, but it was pretty easy to de-brick.
