New AT&T unlimited talk plan for iPhones

Over the last couple of weeks several of the big cell carriers having been rolling out "unlimited" talk packages, including AT&T. Well it appears that they've gotten around to adding the iPhone to the mix as the
Apple iPhone rates page now features an unlimited plan. For $119.99 a month you get unlimited talk time (but the same 200 SMS text messages as the other plans). Since all iPhone plans have unlimited data really the only thing you get is the unlimited talk time. Nonetheless, if you're a big talker (and don't live in Alaska) you might want to check out this upgrade.

I changed my account to national unlimited. Starts with my next billing cycle.
This is great, finally an affordable unlimited plan. I'm not much of a text messenger, so that bit not affecting me.
Mat, thanks for bringing this to my attention.

I changed my iPhone plan back on Febuary 22nd when the plan was first available.
All I did was call and ask about it and they told me I had to call back on the 22nd to sign up. It's been available all this time but I guess this is the first time they've put it in writing.

I just compared this to my current plan and I actually save .01 cent over the new faimly plan. We have 4 iphones unlimited text and 450 mins. I will admitt that we would get more minutes by moving up but based on the number of roll over minutes we have left it is not cost effective at this time.

I don't want unlimited, I want MORE limited! On a heavy month I use 50 minutes of talk time, but the lowest level I can buy is 450 minutes/month. How about, say, a 200 minute level?

Zing! I used about 200 minutes in peak time, a couple thousand in off-peak. I don't need more peak minutes. If I could trade a minute for a text message, I'd do so in a heartbeat!

I totally agree with that.
For people who have limited talk needs (unlimited calling at home/office, limited time on the road) there should be a lower plan, which including charges and fees could nicely round up to $50/month.
200 min voice ($20) - unlimited data ($20) - no sms + fees & surcharges = $50 = Sign me up, ATT

I'd even be content with a 60-minute plan. It's rare enough for me to even use *that* much a month, and on those months that I do, I'd gladly pay the overage even at an exorbitant cost because it's such a rarity...

Actually, the price for Unlimited was $99, not $119. My total plan is now only $128 with unlimited voice and data. w00000t!!!

The $119 includes the $20 unlimited data iPhone plan. The voice part itself is $99. That's why your total with fees is $128 for voice and data.

In preparing for my first iPhone sometime this year (basically waiting for the next major phone announcement) I was pretty stunned to see these plans being nerfed so badly. On regular AT&T Family Plans, my girlfriend and I could switch over from Sprint. Now, however, it will be cheaper for me to have my own plan because of the ridiculous iPhone pricing (come on, 200 SMS?!).

I had signed up for the initial 1350 plan when I got my iPhone at the beginning of February but since I use my phone as my office I could see it wasn't going to work so they actually lost money on me since I was about to go to the 2000 minutes plan.
I looked at the family plan and it was nuts. It was like $199 for the first phone and then $99 for each phone after that and it would have ended up being cheaper to have individual unlimited plans (not too unexpected) but since the wife uses her phone MUCH less then me a lower minute plan with rollover works great for her.

what i am curious about... is in their new TV commercials, they say unlimited text to Family Plan members. Does this also apply to iPhone customers, or are we on some 'special' family plan that doesn't apply?

I have the 900 minutes plan. $79.99. With all the other crap they tack on to the bill, my monthly charges run $99 to $106 (latest bill). Should I assume the unlimited plan would cost me more like $155 per month once all the taxes and surcharges were tacked on?
Not that I'd ever do it, I'm carrying 5000 roll over mins, which shows I clearly overestimated my iPhone primetime voice minutes, but I'd really like to see advertised rates be somewhere close to what the bill would actually come in at, not some lowball figure that doesn't include a list of govt and ATT charges as long as my arm.
What would really interest me is if they started offering corporate discounts on the iPhone. With my razr, AT&T gave me a 25% corporate discount on my plan. They actually continued to give it to me on the iPhone switch for a couple of months, but then cut it off, as unauthorized for iPhone. I wonder if they'll be offering it back when corporate plans are back in play.

I don't know if they're offering the discounts, but they are offering corporate/business plans for iPhones now. So you might want to look into it again.

Hi
Does anybody know if your contract "resets" itself if you bump up to another plan?
If I went from 450 -> 900 would my start date for the 24 month contract reset from 8/2007 to 3/2008?
Thanks in Advance

When we made changes to our family plan the contract date was not changed. I would just be explicit when you make the change that they clarify your contract date won't be extended.
