Apple Ads = major indie exposure
What does an Apple advert do for an unknown indie artist without a US album release to her name? In the case of Yael Naim it meant debuting at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 135000 downloads of her song, "I'm a New Soul". It also meant Atlantic Records pushing her US album debut forward by two months. According to this Adage report, Apple gets away with paying about half the going rights rate, in return artists receive unmatchable exposure.

i think that what this goes to prove is that people still want to buy music, and that it wasn't piracy that's killing the music biz but the crap music they've been putting out for years.
i just hope that these indy bands don't sign their soul away to the labels
Er, how is she Indie if she's on Atlantic Records?

March 12 2008 at 10:03 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyApple works with TWBA Chiat Day, I was actually contacted by them as well because I bought an Infiniti and they were running 52 week-long ads in the NYTimes about Infiniti owners, but due to a technicality in the way we purchased the car it was paid for partially by me, but mostly by my dad (I'm a lil spoiled), they said that it could be construed as false advertising. But TWBA Chiat Day is a great organization and their people were very fun and easy to talk to.

March 12 2008 at 3:32 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySo true! I would've never heard of Feist or Orba Squara (two of my favorite bands now) if it wouldn't have been for Apple :)
