Yesterday we
posted about the Apple
press release announcing that the SDK had been downloaded more than 100,000 times in four days. It's also worth noting, however, that Apple basically confirmed that several well-known developers are officially supporting the iPhone and bringing some exciting applications to everyone's favorite handheld. In addition to the developers represented on stage at the SDK event, of particular interest are:
- Intuit (of Quicken fame) which wants "to create powerful iPhone applications."
- Namco, specifically mentioning Pac Man and, my favorite, Galaga.
- NetSuite, developer of SuitePhone (CRM software similar to salesforce.com).
- PopCap games, working on the extremely addicting Peggle as well as classics Bejeweled and Zuma.
- Six Apart, which is developing an iPhone native TypePad blogging client.
In short, it's obvious that the App Store is going to be chock full 'o goodness once June rolls around. Personally, I'm slightly worried that with Peggle and Galaga on my iPhone I'll never get anything done.

MMS requires a background app to listen for new messages, ruling it out for inclusion in the official apps.
Not to mention they probably need root access to get access to the MMS data before the iphone's SMS app sees it and junks it.. so it fails on both counts.

You have to remember though that Bill Campbell, who started Intuit, is on the Apple board...

And that has lead to Quicken being the last major app moved to Intel... the removal of features from the new Quicken compared to Quicken 2006... the total lack of comparable features between Quicken on the Mac and Windows side? So this has helped how? Maybe they should consintrate on getting a quality Mac app first before porting anything to the iPhone...
Plus i really do not like the idea of having anything more then a place I can enter data to be automatically added to Quicken on the main computer via a sync. I do not want my full Quicken database on my iPhone so if it gets lost or stolen I would have that much more to worry about. Personally I would trust the guys at iBank more then Intuit to bring over a quality app to the iPhone that is secure or basic.

Mmmmm. Galaga. Now if they just add a program to customize the GUI and sound, I won't even need to jailbreak my iPhone. (not that I'm gonna hold my breath or anything..)

Intuit should focus on actually getting their Mac desktop applications working properly before jumping on the iPhone bandwagon....

Holy crap - not Intuit - I agree with everyone too. Their Mac apps SUCK SUCK SUCK. After paying for two upgrade of Quicken for Mac (with little to no improvements), I gave up and stuck with a the previous version. A necessary evil, that Intuit.

Agreed with the necessary evil comment. Using previous version here (Quicken 2006), it's what it is.
And before others chime in with "this app is so much better" suggestions, I need Quicken because it's the only thing that syncs to Pocket Quicken on my Treo.

Intuit on my iPhone? NO THANKS. Quicken 2007 is a bloated piece of crap and they can't even get Quicken 2008 out the door.
Few remember Quicken was originally a Mac product. I've been a user since version one came on a 400k floppy. It was a great product until it went to the dark side.
With the release of iWork my computers are now MICROSOFT FREE. Next goal, make it Intuit free.

Is there anyone here that has used the SDK and has made some apps in it, and is it possible to make iPhone/iPod touch themes, I doubt it, but it would be sick.
I cant wait to see what EA do, Could this be the start of a new portable console?
I would like to see a portable eBay, despite the fact I dont use it, I like browsing, or even portable Amazon.
And for games, i'd love to see if any of the huge game developers can port some big games... *GTA on iPhone...hmm, how?*

Oooh, and maybe the ability to run widgets on iPod touch. As seperate apps, maybe so people who arnt capable of making fully-fledged apps can use they're widgets they made, as they are easier to make... you get me? ;D
