Roxio releases Toast 9 with streaming
With their newly-updated Toast Titanium 9, it looks like Roxio is really embracing new ways of using media, moving beyond Toast's original disc-burning functionality. New features include AVCHD camcorder video conversion, support for creating Blu-ray and HD DVD discs (though why someone would want to make HD DVDs at this point is anybody's guess), automatic tagging of unknown audio tracks via their "audio fingerprint," internet audio stream recording, and more. Previous support for CD/DVD burning and TiVo video is naturally still included.Perhaps most interesting is the new Roxio Streamer, which allows video streaming from your Mac to "your Wi-Fi connected iPhone, iPod Touch or to any Internet connected Mac or PC." It seems like Roxio has recognized that disc-burning has a limited future and is steadily moving Toast towards streaming, etc.
Toast 9 is $99.99, but previously registered users are eligible for a $20 mail-in rebate.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

OMG, if this works with TivoToGo files, my life will take on new meaning.

This is Roxio we are talking about so the answer is NO! It will never work the way it is promised. Seriously check out the user reviews of any of their products. Nothing but buggy, incomplete software.

Itunes does support those files. I have thousands of them. As for how to fix the problem... so songs in your iTunes library that worked before don't now? Or when you add songs to your iTunes library they won't play? It could be that iTunes just lost track of the files, but it seems odd that it would only be the non-mp3 files since they're all stored in the same file/folder structure.

You'll get an email from Roxio with a upgrade to Toast 9 for $29.99 offer.

$59 USd is the US price, so I was hoping to pay that, but I find that the UK price is £59 GBP - which makes it twice the price.
Upgrade just for streaming? No thanks.
What is it with US software companies thinking they can charge UK customers twice as much?

Roxio offers a 15-day money-back guarantee on their products, including downloads. I called up and asked about this exact problem since I'd purchased 8.0 five days ago. I was told to "Return" my order and then buy it again in a few days.
The rep sent me an email with a link; the linked page asked me to enter my email address and then verify that I am destroying all my copies of the software. As soon as I see the deposit on my credit card, I'll go buy 9.0 instead.

I swear to pasta when I first read the headline I thought it said "Roxio releases Toast 9 with screaming". And I thought that was funny but I didn't get it. Then I stopped being a dork and figured out what it actually said.

That's very smart of them to start moving their business now. The days of physical media are numbered. It's almost there and I'm counting them down, but we just need a... little.... more... bandwidth.

Not dead yet.. and not so soon as Jobsie would like you to believe :)

Looks to me like the upgrade is $60. Authoring HD DVD or BD requires a $20 plug in. But I'll be getting both.

It won't. Roxio always over-promises and under-delivers. Trust me, save your money and wait for the user reviews/complaints.

Any more details on the streaming? I couldn't find anything on their site except a screenshot showing "streamer" as an output option. I'm guessing this transcodes to MP4 and then uses a built in Quicktime streaming server?

Will it stream to Apple TV? Currently considering getting an Apple TV but holding off until I know I can stream my backlog of home movies and the like which are in DivX
Can TUAW update us on what can be done to get DivX on the new 2.0 edition of Apple TV.
I know it was possible to put Perian onto the original Apple TV but I have not heard about the latest version.

Yeah, more details on the Streaming. Is it like EyeTV's streaming? I'm guessing so, since I remember the EyeTV folks wrote the Toast software under contract, or something like that. You can see how closely integrated EyeTV and Toast have been over the years.

Actually, more info on EyeTV's streaming over WAN would be nice too. I have found that some of these WAN setups are a bit demanding, so more info is needed before buying. For example, Slingplayer and BackToMyMac have specific router needs, NAT and UPnP, etc. upstream bandwidth, etc.
