International .com keyboard hack: NZ and beyond
I recently posted about internationalizing your iPhone's .com key. TUAW reader nzbullet directed me to this New Zealand/Australia button hack. It works like this: you copy the UK keyboard folder, rename it to a new country and then swap the .co.uk for a new extension.
Unfortunately, you seem to be limited to switching existing keyboard styles to new text--you can't add more characters. This means that the 6 characters of the UK keyboard (.co.uk) can morph to com.au (6 characters) but not to .com.au. (7 characters)
I thought it was a pretty nifty workaround and thought I'd share.

I'd love it if Apple would do an update to change the .com button so that if you hold it down the .org/.net/etc would pop up to select (like if you hold down the a button). That would be really useful.

Has any head way been made as to learning how to edit the keyboard letters themselves (add and delete characters)? As well as, edit the corrective text entry list? If so, please add that info in the comments... thank you!

For New Zealand iPhone users, there's also the Kiwi-ise set of tools for iPhone. Not only does is sort .co.nz for your keyboard, but it also sorts the caller ID/number formatting which means numbers are recognized when the caller is in contacts. There's also a carrier logo (vodafone), a NZ map icon for the maps app and instructions on setting up the voicemail button for vodafone - and it's all free. See: http://www.kiwi-ise.co.nz/
