Huffington Post: New York Apple Stores running out of iPhones?

If you were planning to buy an iPhone at one of the three New York Apple Stores, then you might be out of luck. According to The Huffington Post, the SoHo, 59th Street (5th Avenue Store), and new W 14th Street locations are all sold out of this hot little phone.

At the 59th Street store, an Apple employee was quoted saying, "You can always go online." So, if you are looking for an iPhone in NY, you might be left only two options: AT&T stores, or Apple's online store.

Update: the online US Apple Store is showing "5-7 days" shipping time for both the 8 and 16 GB models.

It's likely because there are several new countries that have recently received the iPhone. The new interest and supply reqs are possibly putting a short term strain on manufacturing.

FWIW: I tried to buy the 16gb iPhone last Saturday (3/22) in the DC area. The rep at the store said they were sold out of th 16gb model and that the entire DC region was sold out of it, too. He had no estimate for when more stock would arrive. He did not know if the ATT stores had stock.

Don't get your hopes up, it's the end of the fiscal quarter.

Did you think maybe, just maybe Apple might want to get inventories down so their first quarter numbers might look a little better?

I tried to buy one in NY last week. Went to 5 Apple stores in the area (Manhattan + Long Island) and no luck.
My advice: call them as they open (9~10am) and be ready to be there in 30 minutes.

My local store in the North SF Bay, CA was out of both models since Friday and the online store has been on the 5-7 day shipping status for several days.

Doesn't Apple have to clear iPhone 2.0 with the FCC? It took 6 months for them to release the iPhone after it was announced due to this. Is that process no longer required?

SF did not have 16GB last week, Las Vegas was also completely sold out last week. So what?

Did someone of the US guys thought about, that most of the phones are actually going oversees? When I was queuing in SF none of the guys had one iphone, and all had forveign credit cards (yes they sell to foreign credit cards without problems).

Have a look to the ebay in Europe. The shops are flooded with iphones. The $ is so cheap for Europe as well there are Easter holidays as well....

Looks to me that they are trying to get to the 10 mio no matter how ....
