Huffington Post: New York Apple Stores running out of iPhones?
If you were planning to buy an iPhone at one of the three New York Apple Stores, then you might be out of luck. According to The Huffington Post, the SoHo, 59th Street (5th Avenue Store), and new W 14th Street locations are all sold out of this hot little phone. At the 59th Street store, an Apple employee was quoted saying, "You can always go online." So, if you are looking for an iPhone in NY, you might be left only two options: AT&T stores, or Apple's online store.
Update: the online US Apple Store is showing "5-7 days" shipping time for both the 8 and 16 GB models.

Most people call the flagship store the "5th Ave store", not the cross street of 59th. That aside, it's NYC, it could just be busy, doesn't necessarily mean a new phone is coming soon (but hopefully!)

Hate to sound nerdy TUAW, but Apple refers it officially as "Fifth Avenue".
I still wonder why is it so important to report the fact that a popular phone is out of stock? It's not like it's a non-renewable resource. Will time stop still if you don't get your iPhone right way? Don't worry fanboys, I own one, but not getting an iPhone right away at an Apple store is not something to get all riled up about.
If you need to have your iPhone blessed by employees dressed in t-shirts and jeans, just go to Jersey, Westchester or Long Island.

Oh noes! The iPhone is sold out in 2 out of 3 of the biggest Apple stores in NYC! Let's use basic logic and go to the 3rd! OMG PROPHECIES!

59th street? Who the heck refers to any location by their side streets? Obviously you aint no NY'er, Cory, so I guess it's forgivable.
The store is the 5th Ave. Store, or Apple 5th Avenue, if you go according to the bags.

Right you are, Sir! Never even been to NY. :-) I was a bit confused by the article as they refer to it as the "59th Street Store." I only know it by the "5th Avenue" store, since that is the street it is located on.

Yeah, it's actually on 5th Avenue, between 58th and 59th streets, the plaza takes up the whole block. The mailing address is 767 5th Avenue.
The website for the store itself is
http://www.apple.com/retail/fifthavenue
not /fiftyninthstreet!!

Something is definitely up with the iPhone supply. Online orders are showing "Ships in 5-7 days" which I believe might be the first time the iPhone has been like that since shortly after it's launch.

Er, by 500gb, I mean 16gb. For $500.

We now rely on the Huffington Post for tech news? Those lunatics can't even get the political news right.

Hmmm, 7 days from today is April 1st, which marks Apple's 32nd Birthday; a new 3G 32gb iPhone would be a great way to celebrate!

SF did not have 16GB last week, Las Vegas was also completely sold out last week. So what?
Did someone of the US guys thought about, that most of the phones are actually going oversees? When I was queuing in SF none of the guys had one iphone, and all had forveign credit cards (yes they sell to foreign credit cards without problems).
Have a look to the ebay in Europe. The shops are flooded with iphones. The $ is so cheap for Europe as well there are Easter holidays as well....
Looks to me that they are trying to get to the 10 mio no matter how ....

Doesn't Apple have to clear iPhone 2.0 with the FCC? It took 6 months for them to release the iPhone after it was announced due to this. Is that process no longer required?

My local store in the North SF Bay, CA was out of both models since Friday and the online store has been on the 5-7 day shipping status for several days.
