iPhoneNotes allows downloading and uploading notes to a jailbroken iPhone

The lack of notes syncing on the iPhone and iPod touch just continues to baffle me. Just like To Do syncing it seems like a no brainer, especially in the case of notes since it's such a pain to type anything very long on the iPhone keyboard. The iPhone hacking community has been working on the problems and a clever Mac application called iPhoneNotes bring basic notes transfer between a Mac and a jailbroken iPhone.
The application actually works over wifi and requires that your iPhone be jailbroken. Unfortunately, the developer's site is somewhat lacking in instructions. You need to have OpenSSH installed (and working) on the iPhone and then when you run iPhoneNotes on your Mac it searches for the iPhone with Bonjour. Once it finds the iPhone and you put in your credentials, you should be able to download and upload notes. It does not provide true syncing; rather you download your Notes database from your iPhone, make changes on the Mac, then upload it back. Nonetheless, it works and provides a way to upload notes from your Mac to your iPhone.
Because it requires OpenSSH this doesn't seem like a long term solution. Nonetheless, if you need to get notes from your Mac to your iPhone, this is one of the best options at this time. iPhoneNotes is a free download from V1ru8.

MegaPhone does this on non-jailbroken iPhones and over USB, so no need for a wifi connection.... it also works on iPod touch... so how is this different?

The price tag makes this better than MegaDrive :-)

Won't launch. Either my system is being wonky or...much more likely, it works on 10.5 only. *sigh*

..... Thanks for your insight on the matter of his handle.

The story is in the name:
V1ru8 -- is trying to induce fear, assuming a posture of subversive power.
Bad marketing choice that screams infantile insecurity.
Cheers!
and by the way, txtspk is becoming a tired mode of expression (so passe) when you have a full keyboard and screen real-estate on an iPhone. Let the Symbian crowd be inelegant.

Also, since the iPhone has a keyboard that easily lets you enter accented characters, you can actually use the word passé, just like the cheese eating surrender monkeys intended.

oooooooops! apologies:
of course, passé (with hold AND slide)
[anything for typographic elegance]

"In b4" is a common forum meme, Azazello, e.g. "In b4 the lock," "In b4 somethingsomethingingeneral." It's not really txtspk.
Also, I'm kind of surprised the sarcasm I was using apparently went over people's heads? Caps lock is cruise control for cool, sure, but it's generally an indication of sarcasm. Obviously I don't actually think the nick is indicative of anything at all.

One little issue: Using OpenSSH is a bad idea on iPhone 1.1.3 and 1.1.4, as you can't change the root password without putting the phone into a loop where it reboots continuously. I wish Apple would just address the notes issue themselves; it does indeed seem like a no-brainer.

You CAN change the root password, just not with passwd:

Installing the Cydia package management system fixes the passwd problem, because it installs its own, better version of the BSD subsystem.

I just use iPhone suite. It allows note transfer through the USB cable and it's free.
Check out the Hackint0sh forum and its under tools.
It's a great porgram. Allows you to send SMS messages from your computer through the phone.
It's a must use!!

iPhone Suite = Windows only, if my readings at Hackintosh are correct.

it conveniently does NOT work on tiger.... so it seems anyway. The application simply bounces in the tray and then goes bye bye.

My god, you haven't upgraded yet? Wow. Just wow.

Still on Tiger over here, too...so I'll take a "Wow. Just wow." as well.

I have found that most things got a LOT slower after I upgraded. Exposé is slower, Dashboard is slower, Finder is slower, everything is slower for no apparent gain.

The spatialviews trick for syncing taskpaper with the iPhone notes is better (if you have taskpaper, of course). You can even modify the scripts and use text files instead of taskpaper files.
