iPhone SDK beta 2 now hitting the streets
After a brief false alarm earlier today, it looks like beta 2 of Xcode 3.1 (including the iPhone-ready version of Interface Builder) is actually released. A word of warning: Apple's servers are getting hammered right now, and it may pay to wait a while before downloading the 2.1 GB package. While you wait, you can peruse the release notes for Xcode and for Interface Builder. Never hurts to read the documentation. Have a good weekend, all you iPhone coders!
P.S. One of our loyal tipsters, PJ, noted that he sent us an email about 36 hours ago with his surmise (based on a link he saw, behind the Apple developer site login wall, to a Beta 1 -> Beta 2 diffs manifest) that the revised iPhone SDK might be imminent. PJ, for the record, you guessed right.
Thanks Nik + PJ

Any word yet if it supports video out? (either playing media files or generating live content for the video output port)
'cause that would open up music visualization or playing games to your TV directly from the iPhone...

Not necessary today. It seems to be downloading fine (unlike the first time where I was indeed saved by a torrent).

I'm d/l the SDK right now just fine at 1.5 Mbps. Apple has definitely learned their lesson from the last time!

No, I think there's just much less demand this time around. It's also not as publicized.
I bet about three quarters of the people that downloaded the SDK initially did nothing with it.

Yep, new firmware. I'm downloading it right now. With any luck it fixes some of the issues I had with exchange (like duplicate contacts on the iPhone but not the exchange server) and the sluggishness of the contacts scrolling. I'll be very happy if it does.

Been there since the first beta. Also, multiple calendar support has been there since the first one as well.
Something I just noticed is that this is actually labeled 2.0 and not 1.2 anymore (at least from the firmware in XCode).

Both are already in 1.1.4.
Just setup groups and multiple calendars in Address Book or iCal...

I have noticed that there is a separate Contacts "app" now.
I just wish they would let SecureRSA tokens be used with the Cisco client and real 802.1x support.

File a bug report, they need to know what we need.

Why would my download say 1.36GB (build 9A2151). The version from March 5th says 2.1GB. Weird.....

The new simulator accepts keyboard input. I'm pretty sure I remember having to point-and-click the virtual keyboard in the first beta.

I was able to utilize the keyboard for input into the soft keyboard in the simulator in the first beta.
looking forward to downloading this tonight and trying out my builds.

This version does not seem to work any more on ppc.
Applied the method as listed on 3by9.com/85/ now with iphone* instead of Aspen* packages to install and copy. However, building the samples gives an error saying 'no compile architecture for (ARCHS=ppc,VALID_ARCHS=i386).

GuyC: The last version produced a warning like that. Are you saying this is an actual error, that keeps you from completing the build and deploying to the emulator?
