I've been looking forward to the iPhone pwnage tool for some time now. When released, pwnage will allow you to load pre-customized iPhone firmware bundles via iTunes. This means that instead of jailbreaking your phone after updates, you can install already-jailbroken systems.
Yesterday, the iPhone dev team announced that the pwnage release has been delayed for at least a week. The team is responding to possible legal issues about the "validity and legality of the contents of the tools". The team promises they will not release third-party copyright materials.
When released, pwnage should work with 10.4, 10.5 and Windows.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

I've been trying to pack away the nagging suspicion that this is just an April Fools joke, but I'm having trouble with that.

Wow, pwnage is a terrible name for this tool. They should call it something cool like iPwn.

What is the benefit of installing a jailbroken OS instead of jailbreaking an already installed OS? Besides enabling custom logos and stuff like that

Hey Erica,
I'm getting confused on the differences/benefits between ZiPhone, iLiberty, and pwnage. Is there a chance you could write up an unbiased comparison? Nearly any site I visit seems to indicate plenty of issues with any of the three, but an independent assessment for people on the most recent versions (1.1.2 on) would be helpful.
