Rogue Amoeba video demo of RadioShift Touch
As mentioned toward the tail end of this morning's liveblog chat with Rogue Amoeba's development team, there is a version of RadioShift in the works for the iPhone and iPod touch; the proof is in the (video) pudding. You can see the full-res QuickTime here.As in the desktop version of RadioShift, you'll be able to review a radio guide and tune into thousands of streaming programs from stations around the globe. The in-progress version has a ways to go (it doesn't actually play audio yet!) but it's exciting to see the efforts of a major Mac developer extended onto the iPhone.

This sounds pretty cool. The only drawback that immediately jumps out is that the desktop version of Radioshift can listen to stations that stream in Real or WMA with the right app or plugin installed. This app will only be able to listen to MP3 or Quicktime streams. (And, recording? Can apps put sound files into the music files on your iPhone or Touch?)

Yes, and wouldn't it be cool to pause live radio automaticaly when someone calls you.... (don't think the official SDK will support this...)

I am going to sound like a complete MORON for asking BUT,
I really don't know much about the streaming radio stuff... Can you connect to a station that streams over HTTP? The real internet music stations use a different port and protocol I believe, but I wonder if its possible to connect to a stream like this one Streamtheworld...

Looks like Streamtheworld uses Flash as a container, so probably not. I've been able to play MP3 files (like podcasts) directly in Safari on the iPhone, but I haven't had much luck streaming -- mostly because the links are .m3u or .pls files (playlist files that point to the stream URL, rather than the stream URL itself).
You could try checking out FlyTunes.fm, which is a web app somewhat similar to RadioShift.

Woo Hoo! Earthbound radio on the iPhone would be a dream come true.

wfmu, a non-profit freeform station in jersey city, nj, has had streaming audio to iphone for a few months, they were certainly the first to do it, and I don't know of any other stations having followed them.
even over Edge, the streaming works wayy better than I'd have thought.
in your iphone, go to iphone.wfmu.org

Doesn't video of the Aspen simulator violate the iPhone SDK NDA?
