Third iPhone beta SDK is live

Good news iPhone developer boys and girls. A brand new iPhone Beta SDK just went live. This is release #3 of the SDK for those of you who have been keeping count. No word yet as to what changes this new SDK brings but we're betting on two things: First, that it re-vitalizes all those PSOD iPhones and second that it will fix all those user 501 errors we've been hearing about from ticked-off developers.

The new release is reportedly just 1.4 GB--thinner than honking 2+GB initial first release.

Have you downloaded and installed the new SDK? Let us know what you've found. Drop us a note in the comments. Want anonymity? Our tipline is the best bet for super sekrit tips. Make sure you tell us to guard your identity.

Just updated to 2.0, iTunes store icon disappeared and NONE of the DRM content in iTunes will sync. Complains I have an OLD version of the phone software. Anyone else have this problem?

Just downloaded and installed the beta 3 SDK.

Good news: the new release is much better integrated with Interface Builder. Just double-click on the MainMenu.xib file (auto-created for a new project) and you're away. This stuff wasn't done in beta 2.

The bad news: Once again, all the Apple-supplied sample projects have stopped working, and you've got to re-download them all again from the Apple web site. Sigh...

The beta 3 SDK (9m2158a) is 1.4Gb, previous versions were 2.1 or 2.2Gb.

Now either Apple has got *really* good at optimising their code, or a whole lot of stuff has been removed...

Is getting the SDK really a problem? I went to the iPhone Dev Center a couple weeks ago and signed up (I previously had the free ADC with the same email). I was notified immediately and have access to all the videos and information and the SDK at no cost. Now I just wish I had a Mac because I want to develop an app for iPhone. I've been holding out for that big fancy redesign but by the time I get it, apps will already be sold and I'm sure someone will make my app. :(

Yes, I'm an Apple fanatic without a Mac. *cries*

Ok, I feel stupid. You are referring to the actual iPhone firmware. Sorry.
