iPhone vs. gravity is no contest

Apple's MagSafe power cords have probably saved thousands of laptops from untimely impacts -- too bad there's no such insurance policy for the iPhone. Brett Peters' phone had an unfortunate encounter with his young son and moments later, with the floor, and the result is as you see above. While the screen glass is shattered, Brett was able to lay a piece of clear packing tape on top of the phone and keep all the shards in place. You can see all the photos on Brett's blog and here on Flickr.

Believe it or not, the phone is still functional; more surprisingly, except for the most seriously damaged spots, the touchscreen still works. Brett is considering a screen replacement via this procedure, but in the meantime I'm sure he's having a heart-to-heart with his son about the facts of physics. 9.8m/s^2 -- it's not just a good idea, it's the law.

Hey, that video is from some great people, we go way back. Glad to see they are in the iPhone space too.

I don't know how these people keep breaking their iPhones, mine has been dropped on cement floors a few times, and tile once, and it only has a few dents and a few scratches. And that's WITHOUT a case, or cover. I train horses, and I've even had a horse fall over on top of me with my iPhone in my pocket, and it survived that!

If someone wants a free iPhone they are welcome to swim to the bottom of the waterfall in Olallie State Park and retrieve mine.

Mine keeps falling, the worst one was when I was running to catch my bus and i slid out of my pocket and tumbled on the pavement and slid on the screen... The aluminium and plastic part is scratched and dinged by the screen is still pristine... I guess I'm lucky.

I had a dream about cracking mine last night. I've still yet to have that inaugural drop. I try not to worry too much, as I got mine from the AT&T refurbished $249 deal. What worries me more is that I can't get a replacement at that price anymore.

I was at the airport trying to check my email while waiting for luggage to come in when I fumbled my phone. It dropped about 5 feet and slid for a good six or so, screen down. Fortunately I had an Agent18 Eco Shield hard case and screen film. You wouldn't even know it had been dropped even from looking at the case plastic.

I know a lot of you prefer to show off the iPhone's sexy design, but I'd rather have it covered up with a not-too-ugly case and not have it break before my contract is up.

Gravity is just a theory. Maybe it was "Intelligent Falling"
