Native MobileTwitter for jailbroken iPhones
Many of have been waiting for a native iPhone twitter client for a long time. And while we wait for Craig Hockenberry's efforts to bear fruit, presumably in June, it's good to see MobileTwitter from Nicholas Pike which just recently showed up in the STE repository for Installer.app. While there are definitely some rough edges, it basically works as advertised and seems superior to the Mobile Safari based options. Having the button bar at the bottom, however, seems less than ideal as it's rather too easy to hit while typing an update. Nonetheless, MobileTwitter is worth checking out for the Twitter-obsessed, especially considering the improvements Nicholas has promised are coming.
MobileTwitter is a free download (though much more easily done from Installer) and naturally requires a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch.

There is another Twitter client in 'private' beta-testing that is quite nice. Nate True asked for volunteers a while back. So far, I think it is better than MobileTwitter.
Of course, they may be other projects going on. Twitter has a lot of clients everywhere else, so why would the iPhone be different?
Is anyone else getting this API error message? I cant even login before it tells me the API usage is over 70...

It's a really nice Jaiku client... I actually prefer it to this updated version of MobileTwitter.
Come on guys, glad you finally posted about MobileTwitter for the masses but I sent this you two days ago and blogged about it on http://iphonesinrtp.com and via my twitter stream http://twitter.com/waynesutton .
Just another example that if you want news first, join the conversations on twitter.
Oh well, I'm happy for the creator of mobiletwitter he's http://twitter.com/npike if you want to follow him.
I'm @waynesutton on twitter and I use mobiletwitter on my iPhone
It works fine for me and I haven't had any battery problems. Been running it since it came on the installer. Now I would like someone to come up with a native mobile Pownce program. That would make my day.

April 09 2008 at 9:05 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI've had it for a few days now, and it works great. I don't understand how it could possibly affect battery life though? It doesn't consistently run, so that's nearly impossible. Perhaps you have SSH always on, or you're using the MobileScrobbler client(which, while it was fun, at battery life like a mofo, because it was ALWAYS running..unlike mobiletwitter!!)
And, if it wasn't obvious, I have suffered no adverse affects as far as battery life goes, since I installed the app.
