Free iPhone Keyboard Dictionaries
If you regularly type on your iPhone with a non-supported language such as Danish, Dutch, Finnish or Portuguese, you'll be pleased to learn about iPhoneDict, a repository of free keyboard dictionaries. The solution is a bit of a hack. After downloading, you have to add the dictionary into the English (UK) slot. This may be a problem if you're actually a British iPhone user. Once downloaded, you activate the keyboard and its dictionary from Settings > International > Keybaords. You can learn more and find step-by-step instructions on the iPhoneDict website.

They should throw Dvorak support into the mix!

Yeah the lack of Dvorak is really awkward for me because I have to keep thinking back to Qwerty to use my phone :)

My iPhone has used those Norwegian dictionaries for *quite* some time already. What is the news here?

Our dictionaries handle international characters really well. If you write "sporsmol" you'll get the suggestion "spørsmol". Can your current keyboard dictionary handle that situation?

What the heck are you trying to say, Kia? Of course my dictionary suggest "spørsmål" when I type something similar. Not that I actually use the dictionary any longer.
Or are you referring to the error in your spelling "spørsmol"? Because that's really the biggest problem with those dictionaries, they appear to have been written by five year olds.
Time to go to bed.

Sorry for being unclear. If you write "sporsmal" or "sporsmol" you will get the suggestion "spørsmål", nothing else.
If your current keyboard dictionary can handle that situation, I would be really interested in finding out where you got it. Because the ones I've tried failed suggesting words with international characters.
And you should really try the keyboard dictionary before making any comments about it. :-)

I can't wait for June so we can have posts about stuff to install that don't require jailbreaking.

I had been wanting a Dvorak layout, but then I imagine it would make the fatfinger-correcting suggestions much worse, since (for example) all the vowels are right next to each other. I already fatfinger too many Os when I meant Is, and often my fatfingering makes a valid word too and I don't even get a suggestion. So I think it's high time someone took the smartphone one-(or maybe two-)finger input model and did some Dvorak math and came up with a layout that would combine typing speed with optimal letter placement for suggesting words.
