Engadget snares next-gen iPhone pr0n
Why is it that our big sister Engadget always snares the great pre-release tidbits? Doesn't anyone want to scoop to us? Sure, we're littler. Sure, we're less well known. But we're fan-bois to the bone. Cut us and we bleed rainbow (and now styled silver).
That aside, Ryan "Da Man" Block found a source who got an advanced look at this slick sexy purported advanced unit. It's black, it's sleek and it just oozes iPhone-y goodness. According to Ryan's source, it will have 3G, proper GPS, a cool black finish and a non-recessed headphone jack. Check out all the deets at Engadget.
And think of us next time some advanced technology just happens to cross your path, won't you?
Update: Some of our readers suggest this "Next Gen iPhone" might be just a slight bit, er, shall we say, "photoshopped"? For realz? Or fake? Let us know what you think in the comments.

... as already discussed, 20 days ago, in http://www.theapplelounge.com/hardware/iphone/iphone-umts/... it's a fake: look where camera lens is placed ;)

It's in the exact same place as the current iPhone.
What looks fake is the quality of the plastic backing. I'm not buying this as the real McCoy. I think it's just a protective covering which accounts for it's slightly bulkier size... with the iPhone info Photoshopped on the cover.
If it is real, then why aren't we seeing any of the front pics? And it says that the volume buttons are chromed but they look matte black to me. And why don't we have any screenshots of the OS as it would have to be different to work with the 3G hardware?

Totally, it does not even fit its own description.
Where is the silver volume switch?
I would like to see a black rubberized exterior. Rubber does not scratch and it gives you some impact protection too. My buddy rocks one of those crazy "construction crew" nextels. He tosses it at the pavement all day, just to mock me and my glossy monolith.

Erica, it is probably because you are really annoying!

If she didn't work for TUAW I bet she'd tell you to bite her shiny, fleshy ass!

Such asshat comments should be left off TUAW.
Dude, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. Now why don't you go back to playing War of Warcraft in your mom's basement, 'ya 40 yr. old virgin douchebag.

Oh we submit tips, in fact every time I submit an apple related tip to both engadget and TUAW, TUAW NEVER responds or posts anything, engadget has posted many of my tips.

Yeah, I've supplied tips to TUAW as well - probably the most notable was a three-week advance that the Airport express was being updated to N, and they had no interest. Makes me wonder about all the other tips they pass on.

Please stop saying "deets".

Bender: Thats stupid people should be able to use their own headphones just to listen to music if they want, you're an idiot for trying to rationalise Apple's move to make LESS hardware compatible with their phone for no good reason.

Looks fake. According to Engadget its supposed to have chrome volume buttons... Those buttons don't look chrome.
I wish the 3G iPhone would get here, so I can stop hearing all the speculation about it...

I forget, whey does the current model have a recessed headphone jack anyway?

Probably because the iPhone headphones have a microphone installed too. I believe this makes using normal headphones with the iPhone useless as phone.
fllvhstma said 7:39PM on 4-25-2008
The headphone is recessed because making it flush would have forced the iPhone to be slightly thicker. It was done for the overall aesthetics, not to deny people the right to use other headphones ('cause my Ultimate Ears Super4vi work perfectly!)

I think that's fake. I'd say id says '8 GB' on that picture and I don't think they're going to bring an 8 GB version of the 2nd gen phone.

Dude, what are you talking about? That totally says "8TB". It's legit.

Looking at certain comments above, it seems that some people didn't bother to read the article, or missed the point completely.
The Engadget article is revealing some rumoured technical details of the new phone.
The article is not about the picture. The picture is not new. We know that. It's just there for the sake of having a picture.
If you want to discuss the merits of the picture, go to the old blog entry. No it's not a Colorware one. Yes it does look Photoshopped. My guess is that it's a Photoshop based on some basic knowledge of how the nextgen iPhone will look.

It's not a colorware based on what reasoning?
