iMac ATI Radeon HD Graphics Firmware Update 1.0.1

Apple just released an update for iMacs sporting either a ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro or a ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics card. According to Apple, the update will "improve system stability" by installing a firmware upgrade on the graphics cards. This does affect the newly released iMacs.

After this update is installed, you should see ROM version: 113-B2250L-259. You can download the update by opening Software Update (Apple menu > Software Update) on the affected system, or by downloading the installer package directly from Apple.

Apple also notes: To complete the firmware update process, please follow the instructions in the updater application (/Applications/Utilities/iMac ATI Radeon HD Graphics Firmware Update.app). The updater will launch automatically when the Installer closes.

Mike -- You haver a dud. My sister had a dud iMac as well. It would freeze up especially during video chats.

She reported the problem immediately and Apple replaced the Mac. Since you sent your iMac in for service, you no longer have the option to get it replaced.

Best thing to do is keep sending it back for repairs. Once Apple replaces EVERYTHING, it should work again!

Try booting off the System Restore DVD that came with your Mac and run apps like Disk Utility. If you see strange graphics etc, you know your iMac has a hardware problem. (My sisters iMac would show strange graphics occasionally even when booted off the Restore DVD). Apple had no choice but to admit the hardware was defective.

i have a 24" 2.8ghz with 2600 pro, it also tells me that i do not need this update. i bought it in september of '07.

apple's site does say that the requirements are: "Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later
AND iMac Early 2008 (late April 2008)" which I am not. i assume we should all just read apple's site with a more tuned eye.

To the guy above with the green lines and freezing, have the machine sent in for service! I had an iMac that did this, luckily i noticed within the first week and had apple swap it. The replacement has been 100% rock solid ever since. Best computer ever.

You have a dud, i'm sorry to say.

Well I have a 17" intel iMac, Core Duo model. With ATI X1600, I get massive video corruption after they system has been running for some time, it seems to coincide with me stressing the graphics system, sadly mine has been away for a new logic board but came back the same!!
See my photos of the corruption here:-

Thanks! I just need to get my lazy butt over to the repair center. Glad to know that Apple will fix it understandably. Does anyone know off-hand if you can upgrade parts while it's in service? Like, could I upgrade from a 7300GT to a 7600GT?

Guys, did you read the post carefully?

"This does affect the newly released iMacs."

Are you sure you bought your iMacs yesterday? ;-)

It doesn't say, "This ONLY affects the newly released iMacs."

So I think there's still some confusion. Even if you didn't just buy your iMac yesterday.

;-)

I have an iMac 24" with the HD 2600 Pro and it won't work for me either.

I even verified the ROM version I have (113-B2250F-219) appears to be less then the new one Apple says it will be (113-B2250L-259).

Either this installer's broke, or there are more criteria that Apple hasn't mentioned.

I downloaded the installer and upon running it says my 20 in Alu iMac's ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT doesn't need the update. Kinda weird.

Strange...I have the 2600 Pro in a 24" aluminum and it tells me I don't need the update.

I don't imagine that Apple would stagger the update for any reason(?)
