Flickr Find: Grand Theft Auto hides Apple and iPhone parody

What do the authors of Grand Theft Auto IV think about Apple users? Tossers. (Warning: definition link NSFW). They've embedded a brilliant Apple parody into one of the Internet cafe computers in the game.

Among other points, they take down Apple (called "Fruit") for being overpriced minimalism. A white shiny unit, superficially similar to the "i" sits next to a near-cinema display and readers are encouraged to "Think Fruit" and live in the Fruit Cocoon.

And if that's not enough, the site advertises a new banana-shaped iFruit phone. Its sales points made me laugh out loud: No buttons, no reception, no storage capacity, all Ego!

Kudos to GTAIV and thanks to Dylan Unutmaz for sending in the links.

i dunno... if apple products weren't so nice and desirable there would be no need to parody them because no one would care. I program RPG and am an admin for windoze. I spend my time dicking around on that platform.. when i come home i don't want to fuck around.. so i go on my mac. and the parody is funny, and i want an iphone.. but reception does worry me.

Not sure if anyone brought this up...but in one of the missions (with the gay French guy), "Mr. Jobs" is referred to as an asshole...I don't know if that's another Apple bash or not, but I thought it was funny...

i thought it was funny when i came across a shopping bag on the street with the clothing logo 'radge' written on it.

:P

it's funny how they can be bothered putting such small things like that in it, haha.

I wouldn't use their parody of an easy target such as Apple as true representation of their attitude towards the company and thusly legitimizing your own antipathy towards Apple. When you've got to fill a game with that much content, you've got to hit as many culturally relevant notes as possible.

The GTA parody had high potential and the fact that it's in the game is funny. But like others, I find the jokes flat. If they'd gone the other way and claimed the bananaphone "slices, dices, parts your hair, gets you dates" etc., THAT would have been parody of Steve Jobs and his reality distortion field. But claiming it does nothing is not parody, it's just stupid. So, high marks for the idea, low ones for execution. Maybe they need to hire a comedy writer.

I think during the making of this game the iphone was a big part of the news, making it original and funny but as it is released quite a bit later everyone thinks it is out-dated and old.
I don't think game makers/creators can tell the future they can only go with what is ''in'' at the time regardless of how long the game actually hits the shelves.

So, yes the PARODY is a bit out-dated but the game is very nicely done and is a very good game just ask many game review sites/mags

The funniest part of all is the people replying like they are personally offended by this.

I thought it was worth a chuckle. I don't read anything and everything mac-related, so if it's been done before that's fine, but it's the first time I (and many others) have seen it.

Good stuff.

Yep, the To$$ers reference is definitely PC users... besides many of the game's designers use Macs :)
