As usual, we have no idea if this is the real thing, a prototype, or just a little Photoshop fakery. The most obvious difference between what Engadget saw first and what's posted here is the color on the back, but then again, why wouldn't Apple release iPhones in different colors? They've certainly done that with iPods.
None of this guarantees anything, but I will say that if I was shopping for an iPhone, the AT&T memo would be enough for me to hold off on a purchase until mid-June at least. There is an iPhone update storm coming, and the thunder and lightning seem to be getting closer together.

Your advertisment at the beginning makes it almost impossible to get to your site. I don't like black sites for minutes.

I 100% agree. I love TUAW, but I HATES those full screen flash ads that popup, sometimes without a close box.
seriously, please don't drive away your readers with this inane full screen content covering ads.

Ditto that. TUAW ads make me not want to read this blog.

Why don't you just use firefox and ad blocker plus? I haven't seen any ads in about a year. (Flash included)

Not only the popups, but the other big annoying ads. Is this really necessary? Extremely annoying!

While we're complaining off-topic, can I add that I am always annoyed that an APPLE-centric blog is so poorly designed for viewing on an iPhone; not just because of the incredibly slow loading times (thanks to the many ads) but also because it is the one site that I can count on to crash mobile Safari EVERY TIME. Maybe Erica can get on this issue?

One thing for sure, as soon as they announce a 2G iPhone, I'm offloading my 1G to someone else.

Seriously? On the white pictures, that looks like a gap where the power button would be. That looks like a case, not a phone.

This has been around for days and the concensus seems to be that this is an iPhone knock off, hence no showing the front which will have a smaller screen and have extra buttons on front since it'll be running WinMobile 6. This also explains why we aren't seeing the front while turned on to verify Mobile OS X on the device.

Everyone seems to be missing the point with these photos of a plastic backed iPhone. Why would a company now openly committed to using greener materials ditch a metal and glass construction (which is highly recyclable) for a plastic one? Especially when they have ditched plastic in all their other product lines (with the Macbook the last remaining plastic case that will soon be replaced with metal). The iPhone 2.0 will not have a plastic casing!

Why do you post these "supposed 3G iPhone" shots?!?! These are obviously not real. Read: NOT REAL.
How do I know these aren't real? Where's the Apple lawyers' takedown notice to WeiPhone or you guys? Where is it? Nowhere! It's not real! Get over it!

i agree fully, these pics have been around for a while, and on numerous popular blogs. The Apple lawyers would have pulled them down within hours if it was the real deal, you know the score. Only the once have they not done it, and that was on a product no where near the level this is going to be. Lets just try and contain our rumour mills till June.

Have any of these photos ever shown the screen?
I won't even consider believing these "leaked" photos until one shows the screen. Until then, I am with the "it's a case" or "it's a Chinese knock off" crowds.

Um, it took the AT&T memo to make you realize that???
Someone hasn't been following the iPhone buzz for the last 6 months...

Hey tuaw, how about making an iPhone optimized version of your site! It takes forever to load, even on wifi. You would think the unofficial apple webblog would be useable on the iPhone. Its not....
iPhone version please.

I agree about an iPhone version of TUAW. The "mobile" Safari crashes almost daily when I visit.

Yep, is slower than snails, and crashes my iPhone too. Way to go!

Would you guys PLEASE read the posts you are linking to? Engadget said the picture of the black plastic-backed iPhone they had was just an example of what the 3G iPhone COULD look like, and they said that one of their sources supposedly had a hands on, not the Engadget team themselves.
"First they supposedly touched it themselves"
