Adobe Reader and Acrobat security updates
Danger, Will Robinson! Adobe is warning that "critical vulnerabilities" have been found in Adobe Reader and Acrobat 8.1.1 and earlier. They are recommending that Acrobat 8 and Adobe Reader users install the 8.1.2 update as soon as possible. Those who are using Acrobat 7 are advised to install the 7.1.0 update quickly as well. A full summary of the security concerns and links to the update files can be yours by visiting the Adobe security update site. Note that while Acrobat & Reader 8.1.2 have been out for some time, the 7.1 update is fresh this week and the security issue is newly disclosed.

Uh, if these "critical vulnerabilities" have only just been found, and the solution is to update to Reader 8.1.2... howcome Reader 8.1.2 was released in January, four months ago?

My guess is that a large amount of people hadn't updated to 8.1.2 and some portion of that population have been affected by this "vulnerability." Hmmm, no...
I was actually wondering the same thing. After reading this, I immediately checked my version of Reader and voilá! I already have 8.1.2.

Why should I install reader in the first place?

Well, considering that you can do things like fill out forms created in Acrobat, I always use Reader as a "backup" to my default PDF application -- Preview.

Now that's interesting. For those of you that have Acrobat 7, be careful. Adobe has the downloads backwards. If you click of the Acro Std page, you get the Pro update, and if you click on the Pro update page, you get the Std.
Can someone let Adobe know?
Michael.
