iPhone is 'unavailable' in UK and US Apple stores; 3G release imminent?

With all the buzz surrounding the 3G model, the international rollout and the SDK, this is just one more sign that the release of a new device is right around the corner.
While I'm obviously not privy to any official dates (or even unofficial speculation), my past experiences in the cell phone retail world lead me to believe that an early June release seems very, very probable.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

to add to the list the Apple store in Bonita Springs, FL is out of iPhones and the employees say, obviously, they don't know when/if they will be getting more in anytime soon

Can't complete the check on the German T-Mobile site, but they still advertise it and allow you to add it into the shopping cart.
Oops.. I put a bad character in that one.
I need the new iPhone to come out NOW! I lost my old one this weekend. WAAAAHHHH!!! I'm stuck with a 2003 model Nokia. Oh, the humanity!
The humanity indeed! My boyfriend borked his Curve and is stuck using my old magenta Razr until he can decide if he's going to get a new Berry or something else (unlocked iPhone, perhaps) -- so I feel your pain!

This may point towards AT&T will continue selling iPhone (1st gen) until 3G iPhone comes out. Then perhaps offer the $200 rebate on the 1st gen iPhone because 3G iPhone will be unlocked!
May 11 2008 at 1:53 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyPerhaps Apple will be selling the UMTS capable iPhone unlocked in the USA as 3G coverage is nowhere near as pervasive as it is in Europe. Apple might be allowing people to choose their carrier so that they don't all complain that they can't get speedy internet.

May 10 2008 at 10:20 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyJust sold my Week 26 iPhone (bought 7/1) for $400 on craigslist. I'm stowing the cash away, and if the rumors are true, I just made $200 on my phone after going 3G for $199.99.
the new iphone will DEFINETLY be out this june.
Reason #1- apple sent out that memo saying no vacations between june 15th and july 12th because of an "exciting new platform release"! which is the exact same thing they sent out last year before the iphone came out.
reason #2- jobs said we would get one THIS year.
reason #3- iphonefreakz.com has posted a story about a screenshot found on an iphone running v.2.0 beta 5 and on here it has a "enable 3g" slider! this obviously means that they plan to have 3g by the time this 2.0 software for the iphone comes out.. i.e. late june or june 29th (to coincide with last years release)
reason #4- THEYRE OUT OF 1ST GENERATION IPHONES! in case you missed it (cuz u wer livin in a cave) apple has had an iphone shortage since march and is no longer selling them online.
so that only leaves the question- when will we know for sure? me thought? we will here an announcement describing the release date of it soon.. say within the next week er two? apple would never go without a whole month without selling any iphones at all for no reason! people would get mad if they bout an iphone on monday and then tuesday they announced the 3g iphone! by doing this (not selling them online and whatnot) they avoid all confusion and anger. then they start selling first generation iphones again for those of you who mite not care for 3g!
