I'm a big fan of almost everything Pixar does (Cars wasn't their best effort, though it was enjoyable), so it is a happy day when a story that links Pixar to my favorite computer company comes along. It would seem that the good folks at Pixar really wanted to play up the differences between the titular hero of Wall*E and a new robot that appears (Eve, pictured to the right). They wanted it to look very cool, and very high tech. Luckily for Pixar, they know a guy pretty high up in Apple who was able to get Jonathan Ive, Apple's famed product designer, to help out with Eve's look.
I wonder if Eve's battery is user replaceable.

What are you talking about? I haven't seen Ratatouille yet, but of all the Pixar movies I have seen, Cars was by far the best.

Hmmm I wonder if that has anything to do with the name..
Eve => Adam and Eve => Forbidden Fruit => Apple

I wish Apple could expand its business to cover the scope of things Sony does (TVs, Consoles, other various consumer electronics) and keep the same level of Apple design, innovation and quality. They could essentially take over the gadget world. It will never happen but it is fun to think about.

Yeah, you're right. Which is odd. As far as I know, Ive is only involved in hardware design, not software.

Your kidding me, Cars wasn't their best? Cars is one of the best movies out there, not just one of Pixar's best. To each his own...

Oui, à chacun son goût. Or, as my grandfather used to say, "to each his own goo."
Personally I thought Cars was Pixar's weakest to date. Which isn't to say it was bad. On the other hand even their best work, while very enjoyable, hasn't managed to earn my unqualified sentimental appreciation – like with a couple of Disney and even Don Bluth classics.

I was pleasantly surprised by Cars. I hadn't liked recent Pixar movies much--Incredibles was so-so, didn't really like Monsters Inc. or Finding Nemo--but Cars was good. (Other than the story being a total ripoff of 1991's Doc Hollywod.) And yeah, Eve looks like a combination of Apple's Automator and Toy Story's Zurg.

I think they helped more by supplying all the computers the film was made on.

Actually, Pixar uses their own system. After Jobs bought the then division of LucasFilm, it was renamed Pixar and became a high-end computer hardware company (Disney was one of their best customers). They had trouble selling the pricey equipment and began making short films to demonstrate the ability of their Pixar Animation Computer (hardware) and RenderMan (software) products. The rest, as they say, is history.

That's not to say that they don't use any Apple hardware, they do, but it's not as ubiquitous as you might think.

Is it just me, or is Jonny Ive really close to Johnny Five, which is really what Wall-E looks like?

Pixar are NOW, almost entirely mac based (they still use linux as well (probably for the render farms), all of their software is inhouse though.
