Second Gear, the same developers who bring you the PocketTweets Twitter client for the iPhone, have announced that Today 1.1 is now available.Today is an app that works with your iCal database and provides easy browsing of your events and tasks in an attractive and unobtrusive window. Clicking the icons at the bottom of the window opens dialogs for entering new events and tasks in a way that is much easier than entering them into iCal directly.
What's new in Today 1.1?
- Better performance for those of us with big calendaring needs
- Filtering of the calendars that appear in the Today window
- Locations can be assigned for new events
- All day events have a new, more obvious appearance
- New event and task due dates default to the day that you're viewing
- Bugs have been squashed

This actually looks very useful for me, since I don't use MS office and definitely won't use outlook.

Wow, this is not worth $15. It is missing two of the most basic features a tiny app like this needs:
-Ability to embed itself in your desktop layer
-Ability to not appear in the dock/command+tab (LSUIElement or whatever its called).
Without these two options, it's always as visible as ical itself, and the point of it is to be there so iCal doesn't have to be.
Anyone have a suggestion for a similar program that can sit on the desktop layer or be totally from the menu-bar (pref desktop layer though).

I personally use MenuCalendarClock for the calendar/dates/todos, and I use iCalViewer to see my iCal calendars overlayed on the desktop

I'm using Amnesty Widget Browser to overlay widgets on the desktop, specifically iCal Events 2.3 and Todo Widget 2.0. Works great!

Nice utility, but it is lacking features. I should be able to tell it how many days in the future I'd like to see. So Today, should maybe be "This Week."
Currently I use shareware app Amnesty Singles and have converted the Dashboard widgets iCal, iCal Events & DoBeDo to desktop applications. What's cool about Amnesty Singles is it allows you to control at what level you'd like the apps to exist. Desktop, floating movable pallets, or straight up apps. Plus Amnesty allows you to make full apps or app shells with dependencies on the actual widgets. I prefer full apps.
Now throw a utility like freeware Dockless into the mix, and no Dock icons for the widget/apps, nor do the appear when Command Tabbing.
It's a bit of work to set up, but it gives me all the things I need on the right side of my screen, a calendar, my appointments for x days or weeks out, and a editable to-do list.
What could be better? Oh ... one small app that does it all. Maybe Today on steroids.

uh yeah, it doesn't seem to display subscribed-to calendars correctly. for me that makes it ... uh pointless. looks nice though. otherwise i might buy it for $5.

There is a nice little widget that I use for just my to-dos (really the only thing I need to see daily) that interacts with the iCal db. It's called "To Do".
