Another iPhone in the 3G wall: AT&T limits purchasers to one phone

While the Inuit people of Alaska and Canada probably don't have more than a dozen words for snow (rather than the hundreds attributed to their language), it seems to me that we're well into the century mark for different ways of saying "the iPhone 3G is right around the corner." Today's example of iPhonius FirstGenerationic Obsoletum comes from Boy Genius Report, which reprints an urgent email to AT&T Retail staffers: no more than 1 iPhone per customer, please.

If availability constraints around the globe, the reappearance of refurb devices and the steady drumbeat of rumors wasn't enough for you, well, here you go. Those who were planning to pick up a bushelful of iPhones at firesale prices will now have to go in disguise.

In fact, there are precisely two Inuit words for snow. "qani" means falling snow and "api" means snow lying on the ground.

Browsing through the Inuktitut Living Dictionary at http://www.livingdictionary.com reveals a few more than precisely two Inuktitut words for snow; in fact, as precise as your examples are, they are not accurate.

Someone needs to explain an apparent discrepancy in all these iPhone rumors. If a new iPhone is coming out and is equipped with 3G then where is the FCC approval application? A 3G iPhone would have to go through the FCC approval process which necessarily leaves a public paper trail. As far as I am concerned no FCC paperwork means no 3G iPhone. Until that shows up the most we can expect are updates to aspects of the iPhone that are not covered by the FCC.

This has been discussed; the 3G iPhone will likely use an already-approved 3G chip, thereby expediting the process. Apple has also likely requested the FCC not release or publish these reports until the launch.

Me, I'm just happy to have sold my iPhone and broken even. Now it's up to my trusty Nokia 6061 to tide me over until June 9.
