John Mayer found cheating on Apple, again
John Mayer has been closely related with Apple for years. He has played after multiple keynotes and he got his MacBook Air earlier than anyone else. I wonder how Apple feels about his latest blog posting? Yeah, that's right, his new cell phone is a... erm, how should I put this nicely... a Blackberry? Seriously, John, did you ever even consider that your friend Steve might give you an iPhone? We first noted John's two-timing tech ways when Blackberry/RIM sponsored his concert tour in the summer of 2007, but we always held out hope that his heart was in the right place. So much for our shattered popstar dreams.

He said himself that he likes to try out new cool things, early. Since he's such an Apple fanatic, I'm sure he had the iPhone for a while. Oh yeah, he's also a millionaire which means he can buy new cell phones left and right.
Personally, I like John Mayer's music.
@ Davis, I doubt that. He has a single that's top 10 in iTunes right now...
Hmm pretty sure I saw a blackberry ad with him in it. A year ago. And... who cares?

May 16 2008 at 7:04 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAgreed, except for BT...do you know BT? He's an electronic/trance artist...hardly vanilla VH1 pop. He actually makes some cool stuff and is VERY highly regarded in the electronic music industry. I love his remixes of Blue Skies featuring Tori Amos.
But don't forget to add U2 to the list...
In defense of TUAW I kind of enjoy the light-hearted approach these guys have to their blog entries. Who needs another serious Apple tech/nerd website. The guys who write the articles have a sense of humor...keeps me coming back.
"it's mildly embarrassing that they choose the most vanilla VH1 pop-stars (Coldplay, BT, John Mayer, etc.) to represent them anyway."
This is news I subscribed for? Get out.
He can use whatever he wants to use, regardless of whatever V.I.P'ness he gets from Apple...
Who thinks (in earnest) that Tiger Woods drives a Buick? Doesn't mean he hates that thing, he just doesn't drive it. This Meyer fellow doesn't hate iPhones, he may even have one, but now he plays with a Blackberry. Next week, who knows. Leave the guy alone. He's young, got money and buys toys. Just like the rest of us. I've got 3 or 4 iPods, an iPhone and yet, I just bought an iPod Touch. Not because it's an Apple (even though most of my stuff is Apple for convenience and ease of use), but because my nephew has promised he can make it into something better. Apple or not (and I trust my nephew). One thing I'd NEVER buy is a Zune. I like Bill Gates and his generosity, but that Ballmer guy is too much of the chart.
May 16 2008 at 3:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt is routine to use celebrities to push your products. Apple does it too. Since Blackberry sponsored his concert its quite likely they have sponsored his phone too and paid him to mention it in his blog. If Nokia sponsors him he will be seen talking about Nokia next. Either way it doesn't matter, should other manufacturers close shop because Apple has released iPhone, maybe he prefers blackberry, big deal.
