Orange offers up iPhone for EMEA
In a short press release today, Orange announced it would bring the iPhone to "customers in Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and Orange's African markets later this year." The company offered no other details.
For some of these countries, it means that many carriers will be providing service for iPhone.
Thanks to everybody who sent this in!

Orange Belgium (Mobistar) will offer the iPhone services but will sell unlocked iPhones. Simlocking and discounts on cellphones are forbidden in Belgium. Maybe iPhone 2.0 will be unlocked from the start?

Hum
this one operator strategy is exactly what will not work in the emerging markets. People are ready to pay for the handset but they want choice.
Cannot understand Apple : Orange did NOT suceed selling properly this handset in France, just because many french subscriber were not ready to move to Orange.
wait and see.

So that means Switzerland will have it on both Swisscom and Orange? Fine!
(Of course I happen to be using the third operator, Sunrise.. sigh).

I glad I've just managed to sell my jailbroken iPhone from the US. I'm hopefully gonna get an official, new 3G iPhone here in Slovakia before the end of 2008 without having to worry about unlocking the phone after each update.

Orange has a very strong presence in Israel, why aren't they bringing the iPhone here as well?

There are 2 Belgium cases that have appealed up to the European Court of Justice on whether Belgium's anti-bundling law is against EU's consumer protection laws (the cases will be heard on June 17, 2008).

Meanwhile, Belgium is thinking about repealing the anti-bundling law.

Looks like Orange is betting that Beglium is going to kill their existing laws.
