AT&T making out like bandit on iPhone

Apparently AT&T is making out pretty well on this whole iPhone thing. According to a Rubicon Consulting study (NYT link, registration required) of 460 iPhone users about half (47%) switched to AT&T to get the iPhone and agreed to pay an average of $19 more per month to use the iPhone over their previous cell. Those numbers are just about right in my case from when I traded in my Treo on Sprint.

What about you guys? How many of you switched to get an iPhone and how much more are you paying per month than you were before?

Iphone is the way to go, i personally did not like the plans ATT offers and find Tmobile the best service out here in boston. as mentioned by someone else my cell phone bill $$ went down. Gotta love all the modifications you can do to the iphone. i had the 20 dollar unlimited data plan, now i use the Tzones (5.99) and it works just as fast.

Yes, I managed to wrangle free from Sprint after 8 years to switch to AT&T. Best thing I have done in a while.

I switched and also brought over all 5 lines I had with Sprint. I didn't have a data plan with Sprint. But getting it for use with my iPhone was a must. I absolutely LOVE my iPhone.

I switched from Sprint. Indoor reception is crap.

I just switched to AT&T, and I don't even have an iPhone!

Stuck with AT&T. Moved from a blackberry which cost me something like $50 more than with out the data plan. Got the iPhone and now I pay $40 more than with out the data plan. It was $10 cheaper than the black berry but the phone is 100 times better. I love my iPhone (jail broken :P).

I actually don't pay anything for my cell phone. I'm still on a family plan with my parents on Verizon, but am willing to:
1 - Cancel my contract early and pay the $175
2 - Pay for the iPhone initial cost
3 - Pay my new monthly fee on ATT

How bout that? Macworld can't come soon enough....

I switched from T-Mobile, where I was using a Dash with an unlimited data plan. However, I am actually paying $10-15 LESS per month, so I was happy to make the move...

While I like the iPhone, I loathe AT&T and would not switch just for the iPhone. After the 3G unit is out I'll evaluate how others are doing with unlocking them and will consider doing so myself.

I will not get locked in with AT&T.

Another option is to just wait the remaining 4 years until their exclusive contract runs out. :)

I swiched from Verizon with a family plan to the most basic family plan ATT offers. I actually noticed a decrease in the monthly bill. It made me realize that Verizon was kinda expensive considering I wasn't using any of their other services.
