People already lining up for 3G iPhone?
In what must come as somewhat, yet not completely, surprising news, it seems people are already starting to line up at Apple's flagship 5th Avenue store in New York for the next version of the iPhone -- supposedly being announced on June 9th. According to our friends at Engadget Mobile, the line is already about 60 people deep but some waiting seemed confused as to what they were actually waiting for -- although others did think they were in line for the new iPhone 2.0.Could this line actually be for the latest and greatest version of the iPhone? Or, is this just some tragic case of mis-communication? Maybe they think they can get their hands on one of those iPhone refurbs? Or, perhaps the employees at that particular store are bored and just in the mood to mess with customers?
Whatever the answer, if this is actually an indication of the fervor iPhone 2.0 is going to generate, maybe I should start thinking about when and where to line up so I can get mine?
How about you guys, you going to camp out to be the first on your block to get an iPhone 2.0?

Wow, didn't we learn anything from the v1.0 release? People waited in lines forever and, minutes after the stores opened and the lines were depleted, anyone could *still* walk in and buy an iPhone without issue. There was no shortage -- huge supplies were readily available upon request. I understand the excitement factor but do these people *really* have nothing better to do? Go Apple!!

apparently, they are lining up to buy the current v1.0 iphone, due to stock shortages probably related to the impending release of v2.0

There's no indication on that website to say it was an elaborate hoax or a setup, and people commenting in other threads who are part of IE didn't get wind of any such event to happen. I simply think a line forms at the store due to crowd capacity.

A commenter on Slashdot noted that he received the ImprovEverywhere invite for it. It's a practical joke.

A tiny bit of common sense would have said this must be a joke. Come on, try using your brains.

They're probably English: they love queueing, and will randomly form a queue if given half a chance...

I've been thinking about when to sell my current iPhone on Ebay and line up for the new one... Haha my biggest problem is being able to give up my iPhone 1.0 for my old Sony Ericsson (which I loved)... I just use all of the iPhone features too much to give it up... even if it's only for a couple weeks. :-( Dependency on a device is tragic.

If this is true, it is really sad. Sad, sad, sad.
Clearly people have really nothing better to do in their lives.
Queueing up at a store 2 weeks in advance for a product that might be launched, is really - I say again - SAD.

I wonder about these people who can spend weeks waiting in line. Must be nice to not have to participate in society or earn a wage to live. Guess the are all unemployed, clearly their time is worth nothing.

Ha! They will line up and camp out. In two months when the price drops they will cry like little girls!!!

Did anyone go and check if there is a real queue on 5th ave., or is this just like one of those fake 3g iphone pictures?

C'mon people, who knows. Maybe it's just the only bathroom for three blocks and the people in the line are just ashamed to admit that when you gotta go, you gotta go in the Apple Store.

Well, its a nice, clean place. I know, I've used it.

You saw it here first people! Chris just admitted to standing in this line! Chris Ullrich of TUAW tried to camp out for a 3G iPhone but lost his place cuz he had to hit the john.
Better luck next time pal. :)

Just checked and there is a line of people gazing upon the Apple logo for creativity no talk of an iPhone 2. But someone did snap a random iPhone photo of a seagull attacking a toddler in Seattle. Both ideas are ridiculous! http://www.iphonesavior.com/2008/05/iphone-hero-sna.html

It's gotta be fake. I don't see Greg Packer at the front of the line.
