TeliaSonera bringing iPhone to Nordic and Baltic markets
To our friends living in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia: welcome to the growing pack of iPhone-serviced countries! Telecom provider TeliaSonera just signed an agreement to bring the iPhone to these countries just in time for the (rumored) announcement of the 3G iPhone.
Apple is definitely spreading the love (and the exclusive carrier contracts) far and wide. I'm not even sure anymore which countries don't have service, presently or forthcoming, but I did get terrible grades in geography. Fortunately, our commenters will be sure to make up for my cartographic shortcomings.
Thanks, Olk, Mattias, Jari, Johan, Borger, Undero and everyone else who sent this in!

You would think someone with my last name might know that... but, no.

Unfortunately Telia has non-existant 3G coverage in Denmark...

Er, Telia is the only contender on 3G to "3" as far as coverage and speed goes, and as far as I know Telia is the only phone company with EDGE in Denmark. So it makes good sense for Apple to pick Telia for Denmark. TDC has some kind of 3G but no EDGE, 3 has good coverage but also falls back to GPRS.

Looking at the coverage-maps, I see a totally different picture.

Sure, Telia has Edge coverage all over Denmark but 3 has full 3G (HSDPA) coverage.

A little side note concerning:
"Apple is definitely spreading the love (and the exclusive carrier contracts) far and wide."
There seems to be no indication in the announcement as to whether the agreement is exclusive or not.
In this "Interview" Alan Hely Apple spokesman in Europe repeatedly denies to comment on the plans... despite a quite stubborn journalist.
Amusing if you understand swedish:

The interesting part is that in Finland it is forbidden to sell 2G or 2.5G cell phones with a subscription. Only 3G phones can be bundled with an operator subscription.

But we already knew this would be the 3G iPhone.
Anyway Telia's HSPDA coverage sucks and the speed is max. 3,6 Mbit, I would rather prefer 3 with 7,2 Mbit and 22 Mbit later this year (but the iPhone won't support that of course)

I'm happy Netcom will be selling iPhones. Telenor's service sucks. NetCom you can call 24/7, and they'll answer within a few seconds. With Telenor you'll have to go through an answering machine, and they'll be closed 50 % of the time. And don't talk about cell coverage, since they're pretty much equal in Norway. In addition, NetCom so far has the cheapest data plan.

No, Hong Kong is not a country. It's part of China. Nevertheless, there's no iPhone in Hong Kong.

Belgium is not on the list neither :-(( Despite some hints that Mobistar would get a temporary exclusivity on the new iphone.

Sniff, Sniff from Japan. If Docomo doesn't wrap this thing up and get me the iPhone, I'm moving back to America!
I guess I can see that it lacks alot that Japanese phones have, but I'm sure they can port some of their apps over with the SDK.

I seriously doubt that consumer advocacy groups will allow exclusivity for long in the Nordic countries, at least.
I think also that we will see subsidized phones relatively soon after launch (within 6 months, if not right away). Especially if Apple delivers on business phone features such as push email. There is more smartphone saturation in the Nordic countries than just about anywhere else, save perhaps Japan.
