Orange to trade up iPhones?
According to Boy Genius Report, French iPhone carrier Orange may be offering current iPhone users a 3G iPhone for The news comes from reader tips to French tech site PCInpact, though Orange apparently has no official statement yet.
We can just add this to the number of other 3G iPhone rumors that have been swirling as of late.

The rumor states 50€, not 30€...
PCimpact's buzz news (Yeah, a PC website who brings in Apple news is already weird to start with) said that Orange has contacted a big bunch of iPhone early-adopters to question them on what to offer for a v1 to v2 switch...
Two solutions, either a phone swap for 50€, or a slightly bigger amount allowing you to keep your v1 (/me thinks of a gift for his gf :-) ) Nothing said about reconducting actual contracts for another 2 years or simply continuing them.
And again, it's only a rumor... not a single french Mac-website reader has brought any proof of a call from Orange yet, besides a couple of "They called me" lacking details...
So wait and see.

Please try to be a bit more considered with your pictures. In Europe Americans are also not portrait as Burger-eating-Bush-loving Taxans in front of an SUV...

Oh, yes we are. :-)
No offense was meant, of course. I was just trying to capture the concept of "French telecom discounts iPhone" with an image. I mean, I could have shown the iPhone lounging around with the Sun King at Versailles, but that might have been stretching the metaphor a bit....

at least the iphone wasn't holding a loaf of french bread and a glass of wine...

I have a hard time finding economic sense (from Orange's view point) in offering this.
I'm with T-Mobile (in The Neths) and I can upgrade to a new phone for a reasonable amount (also in the 40 - 50 euro region) but only after one year *minimum*. The iPhone hasn't been out that long in France (nov '07).
Telco's aren't in the business of pleasing customers - they'd rather milk the OMG! new version! OMG! must have ! OMG! OMG! for all it's worth.
