StyleTap officially bringing Palm emulator to the iPhone / iPod touch
Way back in February we posted on an experimental Palm emulator for the iPhone & iPod touch from StyleTap. At the time, they insisted that they were making no commitment whatsoever to release it as a product. Well, apparently they've gotten over their cold feet as StyleTap has announced their intention to bring StyleTap CrossPlatform to the iPhone and iPod touch. It will be available in "early July 2008" and more details will be released at that time. I wonder if they delayed a bit too long. Obviously, they were waiting for iPhone 2.0, but with native software coming at the same time I wonder how much Palm software people will want. That said, there is a huge catalog of Palm software out there and having come from a Treo I can think of several applications (especially finance related) that I would love to have on my iPhone. What do you think; is there any Palm software out there you really want running on your iPhone?

My Treo has cut and paste; that would be nice.
Or maybe DateBK6, good luck with that one.

HandyShopper? Native version would be better, though

There are 2 Palm apps that I would love to have on an iPhone:
1. TravelTracker
2. DateBook5
A couple of years ago I was doing 75-80% travel. I entered and managed my travel reservations with TravelTracker. That worked very nicely with DateBook5, including time zone support!, to provide calendar and alarms.
I don't have an iPhone, but the 3G phone, plus these favorite Palm apps, will be very tempting. (Of course, I'd love to see both apps go iPhone native, or to see similarly capable alternatives...)

With regards to having TravelTracker on an iPhone, it will indeed be available when Apple launches the new AppStore on July 11th.

Would be great. I have a Palm-based Bible that I'd like to use. It is such a special-purpose app that it'll probably be a while before something like it appears on the iPhone.

Exactly. I would get this just to use MyBible again.

There are a few medical apps that haven't yet been announced as iPhone versions that would be nice to be able to run.

Yeah, i'm not the pope but a GOOD bible app would be great, this muslims seem to have more care :) iQuran is a wonderful application, you can download original sound samples AND translations in a very easy to use interface.
The only way to check the bible is the king james or the luther 1912 in german (1912 !!! damn bad !!! 1984 isn't legally out yet for free and i can't even buy it somewhere in a format that i would be able to export to htm for "books.app"
anyone else has a source for a newer german bible translation...ok...a little off topic ;)

Definitely Agendus! So much better for me than iCal. Agendus doesn't sync with anything Mac, but it is the best calendar program I have ever used.
eReader would be nice, as well as Meteor and Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide.

Doesn't the SDK forbid emulation?

HEY! No rational discussion, mister! Take your facts elsewhere, they're not welcome here.
I keed, I keed. Only kinda, though.
This is something that's pretty clearly prohibited in SDK apps, and if they think they'll be able to sell a jailbreak app, they're in for a surprise.

I'd love to have ChatterEmail on my iPhone. I've not found another mobile mail app that sync'ed follow up flags, which, after using it for two seconds, will never understand how EVERY mobile mail app doesn't have the functionality.

ditto! The reason I've waited on the iPhone is because the built-in applications just didn't do it for me. Third party apps are where it's at. And until someone actually takes the time to get better email and PIM apps written, I have my stable of Palm apps, including ChatterEmail, that are /already/ doing what I want.
The only potential bugaboo here is the revelation that SDK apps won't apparently be able to run in the background. That would severely limit the usefulness of a great many applications, such as Chatter and IM products. So... still waiting on a few details, but this particular item could be a deal breaker for me. How could they do such a lovely SDK and screw it up in such as massively stupid manner??

I believe they have plans to develop an iPhone native version, but the SplashMoney component of SplashWallet (http://www.splashdata.com/index.asp) is an absolute must for me. With that on an iPhone I could willingly ditch my Palm.
But I'd also miss MyWeek's beautifully integrated presentation and management of datebook and tasks, SplashID, the full-feaured CityTime, TealTrack, and an ancient but invaluable Swiss app that I use called NeXTrain (you input whatever timetables are relevant to you and the next bus/train is displayed on a single tap).
One thing I've not been sure about is how I'll cope with losing stylus/graffiti input once I move to iPhone. I have small fingers, so I'm sure the iPhone keyboard will be fine for me, but tapping things out on a keyboard will still be a significant change of approach.

SplashID has been confirmed as in development for the iPhone, with SplashShopper and SplashMondey being listed as next in line. :-) See the SplashData blog post here:

As for other Palm apps, I'm happy that I'll be able to run the excellent astronomy app "Planetarium," and move over the whole host of one-trick-pony apps.
This news seals it... I can officially get an iPhone, and ditch my Treo.

Graffiti2, if not a native Ink; I've been using Graffiti since 1996, and I can barely write any other way now ;-)
Memo, if iPhone Notes won't give two-way sync
Brainforest is one of the best outliners for a handheld, and the MacOSX version syncs and exports OPML to use the outlines elsewhere; and my holiday/birthday/etc gift giving are recorded there for over a decade
AvantGo for no signal of any type moments
And I definitely want eReader and was happy to read that they're considering a native iPhone version, hopefully that won't need a connection so that we can read on flights

There is no way Apple will let them sell this. Apple created their own store to limit what could go on the iPhone, if they let a third-party developer sell an application that let users run any Palm app, there'd be no reason to have an Apple store. This WILL NOT go far.
