Found Footage: Samsung/Sprint goes after iPhone
It looks like Samsung and Sprint are going after some of the iPhone market share as they show off their video recording capability on the Samsung Instinct. As Apple's competitors are slowly catching up, is it time for Apple to release video recording capabilities for the iPhone? I'm sure that most iPhone users would like to see video recording on the next iteration of the device.

With any luck this advert will be redundant in a couple of days.

Not sure I get the point of the ad. The finger on the right just wiggles around, but the one on the left touches the screen. Big deal!

The Instinct has video recording capabilities. The iPhone does not (yet). So when the first finger found the video recording button on the Instinct, the second finger had nowhere to press on the iPhone (hence the wiggling...it was looking for somewhere to tap), so it slumped off-screen.
I wasn't the only one that picked that up, right?

Fair point! But a dollar gets you five that in a few days it'll do so. iMovie Lite too maybe? :-)

I reckon! How can they compare an unreleased phone (Samsung) to the nearly-outdated iPhone? Compare a CURRENT Samsung to iPhone, you tools.
Or, try comparing the two tomorrow, when all of your ads amount to nothing....lol.

Ironic that the site is nowisgood.com, isn't it?
Also, how about the originality of design contest? How many phones are out since the iPhone which basically copy it's form factor?

Hopefully a third part developer is working on a video app with the SDK, I guess all will be revealed on Monday!

You can already shoot video with a Jailbroken iPhone
hydo said 5:15PM on 6-07-2008
Yea, that's what I want to do with my phone... shoot video. Who gives a damn about the fact that any of Sprint's phones cut out when you go behind a tree? Give me video!

I switched to Sprint from Cingular around 3 years ago and my service has been much more reliable. In fact most of my family has switched to Sprint and we really have no complaints about the service, which is something we can't say about the mix of pre and post merger Cingular and AT&T service we had before.
Of course it all depends on the phone and the location and how far off of line of sight you are.

The ol' "Who would want to do THAT?" argument is one of my least favorite defenses on the web.
I didn't use video recording that much on my old phone, but I liked the option. The iPhone should have it; finding it useful enough to use should be our option, not a missing feature.
I feel the same way about MMS.

I have used an early version of the Instinct (spent about 30 minutes playing with it) and it is actually a very nice device. There are a few things that it does better than the iPhone (for instance I like its on-screen keyboard better than the iPhone's) and it is a bit smaller and thinner than the iPhone. Of course the iPhone has a few features over it as well (Mobile Safari being the biggest IMHO).
I have been holding onto my ratty old flip-phone for a little while now with the intention of snagging an Instinct when it comes out depending on how much it costs.
P.S. Don't watch the nasty YouTube video, you can go to Sprint.com and watch this one and many more in high quality.

You say there a 'few' things it does better, and then you mention you 'like' the keyboard better than the iPhone's.
Why? Is it better? Is there any reasoning behind your statement?
As for video - this is a facility that is not of interest to most of us. I can imagine taking a video of the kids playing.....maybe.
I would rather have GPS - especially useful if you are boating, for example.
Videophone? Well, I tried Skype and its OK, but eventually just reverted to email.
So much of the 'technology' we are told we want is kinda useless.

After reading Engadget's hands-on, it seems the browser is the typical mobile crud, nothing approaching the UI of Mobile Safari. That makes a phone like this useless in my book.

Anyone else happen to notice that the hand seems to have the "#1" on it's middle finger? Bitter much? hahaha

Nah, I'm pretty sure its his pointer finger. Check the vid on sprint's website, pause at 00:11:64 and you can count 3 fingers before you get to the one extended with the #1 hand on it.
Now it would be funny if they did have it on the middle finger and then get slapped with a fine from the FCC... ;)
