"Leaked" iPhone images show video chatting, slimmer iPhone?

There are two major flaws that stick out in these images, the first of which is the lack of a sleep/wake button on the red iPhone in the image above. The second of which: where the iChat details are shown, the requirements state "Windows Xp." However, Apple always states "XP" as just that; not upper case, then lower case letters.
We do have to agree with Engadget when it comes to the video chat images. Ryan Block states, "No Apple design would be laid out the way this guy's got his page laid out here." We have to agree -- Apple designs are normally clean and minimalist; not jumbled as these images are.

I'm surprised that TUAW missed the fact that the time shown on the this supposed iPhone leak is 1:25pm, when we all know Apple only starts work at 9:42am. Total give away.
Above is a batch of my own 3G iPhone mock-ups.

I guess you could look at it the other way around. Whoever made these mockups spent a lot of time on 'em. :) They kinda do look cool. And iChat for Windows? That's a sweet idea.

also the back of the black iphone clearly say 14 GB which is would be ridiculous because there is no reason why they would break from their pattern of 8-16-32 GB flash upgrades.

It's such a low quality picture it could easily be either. Except for the other picture clearly showing 16gb.

Jumbled? There's nothing to it. It's the webcam image, then the name of the person you're talking to, their contact image, and two function buttons, probably for disconnecting and adding another buddy to the chat. I have a lot of confidence in this actually.

or maybe that's the video-chatter's own webcam image? I'm definitely buying this. It's got Apple marketing written all over it. Look at it, there are two ethnicities represented, they're both wearing white t-shirts I think, Carlos Rodriguez, who is both fairly young and attractive, looks to be in Times Square or something, which demonstrates the iPhone's capability to perform video chats over 3G. Besides that, these layouts are very well done.

Are you kidding? Do you know how many marketing meetings would go into the "iChat Guy"? I highly doubt they would come up with a goofball like "Carlos" here. Seriously, the expression on his face wouldn't be the one they'd pick to sell iChat.
Seriously, what is that look on his face? He's trying for "wow, I'm video chatting on my cell phone!" but instead it's more like "Boobies!"
This guy looks more at home in one of those match.com commercials.

i disagree with the layout. it just isn't aesthetically pleasing enough to be apple.

If you look closely, you can see little speaker grills on the bottom of the back of the phone.
Jony Ive would never EVER put speakers on the back of the phone...
To quote:
“Why would anybody put feet on a phone?” Ive has the answer, of course: “It raises the speaker on the back off the table. But the right solution is to put the speaker in the right place in the first place. That’s why our speaker isn’t on the bottom, so you can have it on the table, and you don’t need feet.”

It's possible these are early mock-ups, as pretty much every ad that Apple has these days is clearly Photo-chopped. They're likely fake or an early version, but it does help some of us visualize things at the very least.

I really think they're fake. Apple legal would have been on everybody's behind to take these down by now if they were real (ala 3G iPod nano).

I think these are purposely made by apple marketing dept. or one of its agencies just to create buzz. they're fake, but using elements of the real thing, to get people excited and talking about its coming features. it is a photoshop file, the sleep/wake button missing is a total giveaway that the thing is a mock up just to tease us apple freaks. hehehe. well done though.

Good point there. Think about how great a market research tool that is.
They set up websites to leak information, and post these iffy blurry, grainy pictures that get discussed all over the internet. They then monitor the buzz, seeing what people like or dislike about them.
For example, we all liked the black back, but many of us disliked the glossy back. So what do we have now from one of these same "sources"? Matte black. They test the waters with the news that it'll be slightly thicker. They gauge reaction. It's all marketing.
