Where can I buy an iPhone 3G?
While 22 countries will see the phone launch on July 11, 2008, the phone will be hitting other parts of the world as well. Apple wasn't kidding about making the international presence of the iPhone known, from Madagascar to Mali, Chile to Croatia, the iPhone 3G is coming.
You can see the complete list of countries here, but I went ahead and put together a little Google map representing as many of the countries as I could find/fit.

So, *puts on tin foil hat* I don't see anything about it being available online. I doubt the iPhone 3G won't be available online, but is this their solution to those in the US that unlock their iPhone? Will you only get it through brick and mortar stores and have to activate on-site?

exactly, more than new countries I am interested in new distribution method - but in-store activation was to be expected, as there are no iTunes stores in most of those
damn, I still hope they'll bring pay as you go in UK...

so not even a 'coming soon' for China, Russia and South Korea. I wonder what went wrong there...

Ditto... I mean WTF? Hong Kong is on the list for July 11th but no mainland China or Taiwan?
I'm just assuming here, but I suspect Apple is only announcing countries in which they have signed contracts with carriers. They may very well sign a contract with a Chinese carrier tomorrow and add it to the list. This seems especially likely since they added fairly robust Asian and specifically Chinese character input.

Don't wanna be bitchy, but you forgot to put a pin for my country - Slovakia - on the map :-).

Sorry about that! I missed a few of the European countries because I had a hard time finding the accurate locations in the timeframe I was working in. It is corrected now and I'm trying to get any others I missed added too.

I am currently in the U.S. and both my wife and I have an iPhone with AT&T. I am moving to Germany in a couple months. I want to get us both a 3G phone. Will I be able to purhcase them on July 11th and then use them over there on T-Mobile with no problem? Also I take it that the new wall charger is only useable in the U.S. if it's bought over here since it doesn't look like it has a removable adapter.

To answer your question I seriously doubt it.
I would really really really like to see international portability, and I don't consider AT&T international roaming a practical solution to those of us that spend any length of time in multiple countries. I have 9 SIM's for 5 different countries. I need a way to USE my iPhone in each of those countries without paying international roaming rates.

So you think I'll have to wait till September and buy the 2 iPhone 3G's in Germany? That bites. I wasn't concerned about the new 2 year up on the AT&T contract up because I will be exempt from the cancellation fee due to the reason of my obligation for going to Germany. Maybe in that amount of time they'll drop the price of the iPhone by 100 bucks again. lol

I am just wondering what Apple's plan is for the iPhone in Japan, considering Japan is not that big on using GSM.
