Adium releases new beta version, now even more psychic
Adium has a sweet new beta version available this morning. If you don't automatically see 1.3b2 when you check for updates, then make sure you've enabled "Update to beta versions when available" under the General tab in the Preference pane.Several new features have been added, including:
- Enhanced psychic abilities -- it opens a chat window as soon as a contact begins typing a message
- Filtered search in the Contact list
- Apple Address Book integration (access under Advanced tab in Preferences)
- Integration with Facebook chat (enable in the Accounts tab under Preferences)
- The latest Growl and libpurple updates
- Additional information (such as "Last Seen" and Apple Address Book notes) added to the Contact Inspector

Anywone knows a plug-in for adium that work like buddy spy in yahoo messenger? That can see what your friends are really doing, even if they invisible.

It let's you chat with visitors to your website directly from adium, or iChat.
There are some nice screenshots on adium extras:

I just downloaded the new beta of Adium and it works fine. Facebook chat works great there but it keeps logging me out of Facebook (on Firefox 3 RC2 and Safari 3.1.1, I haven't tried more browsers). Anyone's having the same problem?
Thanks in advance!
MSN loggin is a lot faster for me now.

If apple were to overhaul iChat by allowing the user custom chat windows (I don't like the bubbles, time to move on) and integrating contact lists into one, nice elegant solution I would dump Adium for sure.
Time to read UI design books I guess.
Install Chax for the unified contact window. Oh, and as for the bubbles, go to View > Messages and select another "style".
I can't seem to find the "Filtered search in the Contact list" feature which is why I jumped on the update - am I missing something?

Sad day.
So, more on this psychic thing. I have it enabled and when a contact of mine cycled through his tabbed windows and it notified me, and I assumed he was sending me a message. I sat and waited -- for like five minutes -- even though I was planning on getting up from my desk. I love Adium, but this feature? FAIL.
June 10 2008 at 1:16 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyUm... so you were waiting for 5 minutes for your friend to message you?
This feature sounds cool, but is in the same realm as waiting by the phone for that special someone to call you...
Heh, maybe my friend was worth the wait. :-)
Seriously though, I'd been waiting for some info and thought I was finally getting it. Turned out, um, no.
Is it just me or is this the same Address Book integration that's been part of Adium for a long time? I don't see any change to that tab whatsoever.
:-/
tuaw is mistaken about address book integration having changed. Advanced->Address Book is indeed the same.
The confusion likely comes from the improved address book integration in the Contact Inspector, which is, in fact, all-new :)
But yet they still haven't fixed Adium's most usage-restricting bug: libpurple.
libpurple works just fine for most protocols (like Jabber and AIM), except they're also provided by iChat (which I would much rather be using). For accessing WLM (which everyone I know uses), it is astoundingly horrific (reflected as well by it's GTK counterpark, Pidgin). I use Emesene on Linux, a pyGTK-based client that works wonders, and is by far the best WLM client I've ever used. On Mac I use the official client, the best WLM client for Mac (even though it's way behind Emesene and iChat). If I could find a way to use iChat for WLM (and not some buggy Jabber-based gateway, I tried that and only a handful of my contacts showed up and it caused a lot of problems), I'd jump on it in a second.
