Adium releases new beta version, now even more psychic
Adium has a sweet new beta version available this morning. If you don't automatically see 1.3b2 when you check for updates, then make sure you've enabled "Update to beta versions when available" under the General tab in the Preference pane.Several new features have been added, including:
- Enhanced psychic abilities -- it opens a chat window as soon as a contact begins typing a message
- Filtered search in the Contact list
- Apple Address Book integration (access under Advanced tab in Preferences)
- Integration with Facebook chat (enable in the Accounts tab under Preferences)
- The latest Growl and libpurple updates
- Additional information (such as "Last Seen" and Apple Address Book notes) added to the Contact Inspector

Apple Address Book integration (access under Advanced tab in Preferences)
This is golden for me. I may switch from iChat if this is true integration.

i used trillian before i made the switch to mac, so i have a lot of logs. Is there a way to get those logs into adium?

Looks like importing Trillian logs isn't an option yet, but one they're considering for the future:

i've seen that thread, its 3 years old though.... it doesn't seem like its much of an option...
i was hoping there was something third party or an apple script or automater or something...
thanks though

Just save athe log file on your Mac and use Spotlight to do a search. Hard to peruse but at least it's an option.
Or, look at the data differences between Trillion and Adium, then create an app that parses the information for you.

well i suppose thats one way to go....
i think i'll just use trillian once it comes out on mac, i mean i like adium better, i just don't want to lose these logs.

Please attach a Trillian log to #1742. We need someone who uses Trillian to help if we're going to produce an importer. As you can see, nobody has done so or otherwise volunteered to help in that ticket.

Personally, I think the feature where the chat window pops up once I start typing wasn't really thought out well . . . I know there are countless times when I thought I wanted to chat with someone, but then realized that I didn't . . . why do I want to let my friend know that?

I thought the same thing. Seems like that could be a privacy issue. Hopefully there is some kind of preference to control this behavior in the protocol ie like the control over showing idle time etc.

It actually isn't enabled by default. It's in the advanced section of Message prefs.
dagamer34 said 12:33PM on 6-10-2008
Then it's a privacy issue for THEM, not you. Remember, they can turn off letting people know they are typing a message in which case psychic will stop working for that buddy.

There is a bit of a bug where it switches the keyboard to German.

I get the French Keyboard setting
Lisa Hoover said 12:30PM on 6-10-2008
Yikes! Really? I'm running it on three Macs and haven't seen it yet but that would certainly not be good (unless, of course, you happen to know German). :-)

yeah, mine keeps switching to swiss-german
just a little annoying

Please report this bug as detailed at http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/ReportingBugs. This is the first I've heard of it, and we'll most likely need the help of someone experiencing it to fix it during the 1.3 beta cycle.

But yet they still haven't fixed Adium's most usage-restricting bug: libpurple.
libpurple works just fine for most protocols (like Jabber and AIM), except they're also provided by iChat (which I would much rather be using). For accessing WLM (which everyone I know uses), it is astoundingly horrific (reflected as well by it's GTK counterpark, Pidgin). I use Emesene on Linux, a pyGTK-based client that works wonders, and is by far the best WLM client I've ever used. On Mac I use the official client, the best WLM client for Mac (even though it's way behind Emesene and iChat). If I could find a way to use iChat for WLM (and not some buggy Jabber-based gateway, I tried that and only a handful of my contacts showed up and it caused a lot of problems), I'd jump on it in a second.

Is it just me or is this the same Address Book integration that's been part of Adium for a long time? I don't see any change to that tab whatsoever.
