Iconfactory prepares Twitterrific for the App Store
Our favorite little blue bird has been getting a lot of attention on the Apple site, thanks to its upcoming appearance in the new iPhone/iPod App Store. In their blog, Gedeon Maheux of the Iconfactory talks about the native version of Twitterrific for iPhone and iPod touch.
"We feel both excited and privileged to be a part of the new App Store and are committed to bringing our users the best software we can offer," he writes.
According to Ged, the pricing displayed on the site is "for position only": meaning no decisions have been made about pricing yet. Also, expect Twitterrific to work across EDGE, 3G, and WiFi networks.
In related news, Twitter survived the onslaught of WWDC! Hooray! A short service interruption in their data center caught them off guard, but otherwise they were up for 97.3 percent of the day. Twitter received an order of magnitude more traffic yesterday than they do normally.

The only reason Twitter made it through is because they turned off or nerfed every single feature of the service. By the start of the keynote, users were capped at 10 server checks/tweets per hour; the People lists were gone; the Stats were gone; and Replies, Archive, and Everyone were broken. Even with that, the service was intermittent at best, with Twitteriffic returning errors nearly every time I checked and the Twitter site returning the same errors.
They are in desperate need of an information architecture team over there.

As a quick follow up, Twitter is over capacity NOW, and it's back to its normal routine.

I honestly feel bad for Twitter; they have done a great thing with a great framework, they just went about it in an odd fashion; it was built in the style of a CMS (supposedly), when they should have built it as a messaging architecture (Not sure where I read that, it came off of RubyInside.com's side bar).
Oh well, I still love me my twitter ;)

Exactly. They 'survived' the way a crash victim is 'surviving' on life support. Barely, with a glimmer of hope for life.

I really hope Twitterrific on the iPhone is location aware like Twinkle is. I find this feature very interesting. Seeing what local people are Twittering about right around the corner is a really cool way to keep up with whats going around you.
Just the other day I became aware of a local street fair going on down the street from myself from a tweet around the corner.... very cool.

I don't know how Twitterific can charge anything for this app when the free Twinkle trumps it feature-wise on EVERYTHING (save the icon)

They're going to need to make a Japanese/Chinese version for the Hong Kong, Japanese, and Singaporean markets that are about to open up. Twitter is very popular in Asian countries.
I do believe Twinkle has innovated in this field, and Twitterific might find it conscionable to acquire it. But, of course, business is business.

So they may charge for it (or maybe there will be two versions, like on the desktop)

It's also misspelled.
